How y'all holdin' up out there? My yard and garden gets plenty of extra water daily now. Now we wait and see who survives the intense August heat. But I am starting to melt!! Rolling on the floor laughing And who made up the rule that I have to wear panty hose to work?! Grumbling

I'm not sure why you would put panties on your hose, anyway?

Careyana, we've been at the lake this week. Home again now. Let me know when you want to go to nursery shop.

Ahhhhhhh! A lake! What I would give to be on a lake....AND nursery shopping! Have fun.

Pantyhose are required for work. They even specify the color! (rude!) I didn't make up the rules. Nylon on my legs in 85% humidity and 100* is SO NOT FAIR! Grumbling Can I retire??

I can go any day but Tuesday also! I didn't realize how close the nursery is to Wimberley. Maybe we can shop, buy, leave the plants, have lunch in Wimberley, then double back to pick up purchases so they don't fry in the car. Whew!

That sounds like a plan! Haven't been to Wimberley in a couple of years, but I remember stopping into a cafe for some outstanding sammiches!

Maybe we'll even get lucky and get some rain this weekend. Wouldn't that be nice...? Thumbs up

That cafe also has homemade PIES!!!

Yes, to the rain! We came home to crunchy grass and wilted plants. Not sure why some of my hibiscus are cratering. I'm taking cuttings tomorrow morning.

It was actually cooler here than at the lake. There's also some thick floating algae all along the shoreline up there. Nasty stuff.

Do we have to call ahead for Millers'? I wasn't sure if they were opened without appt.

Their website still says "By appointment only" so we'll have to call.

Does Monday work for you? I plan to stop at Great Outdoors tomorrow (we'll be downtown for the Pet Expo) and get a couple of Ollas to test them out with the orchids I plan to buy. Green Grin! Whistling

Nope! I potted the nuns orchids and the rest are still in their other pots. I've had them on the front porch all summer and they're happier than they've ever been. Very odd!

I thought the Ollas were to be partially buried beside a "planted" plant. Confused ( I think Callahan's has them too).

Annnnnnyway. We are setting low temperature records here. Galveston had a low of 85, a record high for overnight. Good gravy! When's Fall getting here?

W 're in for a balmy 95° this weekend. 'Better than the 102° yesterday. Looks like they're tracking another storm that might give us some rain. It's always hard to hope for that storm, knowing it impacts those on the coast with more than just rain.

I've been looking at photos of our garden a few years ago. The transformation is sadly dramatic without the rain and too much heat. I'm not replacing most of the plants I've lost. Maybe I'm getting too old for this!

Sorry for thread hi-jacking! I'm terrible at that! I'm hoping we get some of that rain too. The awful heat is making everything shrivel and my newly planted roses are looking a little puny. Sad

I was reading what some people had done with the ollas - lining them with rocks and peat moss to keep them moist without having to bury, and also putting the bottoms into a shallow bowl. I'm hoping to get one or two of them to test. I did shoot the company a note to say "Hey, got some other orchid growers interested in your pots!" and they offered me one to test - I'm trying to decide to try that or not, because then they'd want to know how they'd perform, and I'm just such a novice I'm not sure I want that pressure. Test it! If you have success, it's another marketing tool for them.

We just had a rain shower! The wind picked up and we heard the thunder. Didn't last long, but it was enough so that I don't have to water this evening.

Isn't it wonderful, Bubbles? I hope you get more. We are having a downright thunderstorm right now. Wind, rain, and everything! It's pouring and there is a iver by my back door. The radar is red all around us. I LOVE It! Finally!!

Glad to hear someone else is getting rain. Not so good to hear a river is by your door, though! We had a little over an inch.

We were downtown at Palmer Events when it came through - whatever happened we lost power at the house and my roses look a bit perkier!
