I love people who save roses. I downsized my rose garden from 350ish roses to 250ish roses 2 years ago. It's nice to know the roses are going to a new home where they will continue to grow. My 100ish roses were taken by two friends who live in a flood irrigation area. Roses here love flood irrigation. I was just visiting with them this spring, and the roses I had gave them were looking absolutely gorgeous with that unlimited flood irrigation water supply. It pleased me.

I am delighted with them. I got most of the ones I wanted and than filled in with anything else she had. Wish I'd have tried to stuff a few more in the car.

I do a summer pruning and this usually occurs after the devastation of rose slugs/sawfly larvae. I go back about 1/3 of the growth and they bounce back incredibly fast.

I gave up on David Austin roses years ago and only have Pat Austin right now. I trained it as a climber and it's incredible. It's really the only way I can see the blooms because like most Austin's, they bloom heads are heavy and they 'flop'. PA is the only Austin I've ever had that is completely disease free.(for me, anyway) Every DA rose I ever had got every disease in the book and it just wasn't worth the disappointment and work.

"June Gloom" (which lasted the entire month of July here this year), is like turning off a light switch. Everything for me comes to a screeching hault and stops blooming because there's no adequate sunlight for weeks on end. Very depressing when it's supposed to be 'summer'.

It took me many years to arrive at a decent collection of disease free roses that do well here, and as a result, I have had to settle for only floribunda's . It was a trade off...sacrificing fragrance for color and quantity...but that's ok.

Here is my list of tried and true roses that do exceptionally well in this coastal Ca. climate:

Climbers:
Polka, Dream Weaver, Lemon Meringue,Fuchsia Meidiland (ground cover trained as a climber) Cecile Bruner, Yellow Lady Banks, Sunrise, Iceberg, Colette, Excellenz von Schubert, Dublin Bay, Westerland, and a noid yellow ground cover trained as a climber.

Shrub floribunda's:
John John
LaSevillana
Burgundy Iceberg
Brilliant Pink Iceberg
Gold Marie
Enchanted Evening
Salsa
Brass band
Bill Warriner
Chihuly
Julia Child
Livin Easy
Easy Going (I always get the names of these 2 mixed up)
Dream Orange
Wild Blue Yonder
Sunflare

I don't have hundreds of roses like a lot of you !

Good grief, are you alert or what? LOL
As much as I hate to admit it, I got rid of Sheila. I did love it and it was doing perfectly fine, but I needed room for Hybrid Delphinium and some other things so she got yanked. I didn't have room to transplant her anywhere at the time and the garden tour was coming up.
I'll get another one in January.

I fell awful for doing it...
Am I banned now ?

Thanks for the list. I'm always looking for disease resistant roses. Although we may have different challenges on the Gulf Coast, I know some of those do well for me.

Is your Orange Dream more on the orange side or the coral side? HMF has both colors...

My "Dream Orange" is definitely on the orange side, not coral by any means.

If it's the orange orange like on HMF (http://www.helpmefind.com/gard...), then I need to get that one. I have enough of the coral/pinkies (not my favorites).

It's really pretty, Mike. Did you buy it locally? I don't remember ever running into it.

I got it at a farmers market in Thousand Oaks. Mine is a "standard " that only gets about 5' tall max. I'd never seen it before, or since ! The color reminds me of Tropicana.
I'd take a photo of it, but there's no blooms on it at the moment.

Here's a poor bloom, but it gives you an idea of the color.

Could be...who knows ? They do look very similar, don't they ?
Zuzu would know.
When I got mine, it only had a paper tag on it with the name, not one of those metal embossed AARS tags.
I've never seen Dream Orange at any nursery, so mine could very well be mis-labeled. I just liked the color and shape of the flower so I bought it.
