They are ending their long career as a daylily farm here in Carlisle, Mass, as of Sept 1, 2012.

They have been in the business for many years and helped organize the New England Daylily Society.

Both are well respected and loved in our area.

You might remember their gardens during the New England AHS Convention.

I purchased my first daylilies from them. I remember that day vividly, and choosing some wonderful cultivars from their books of slide photos. Bob was very encouraging about attending a local meeting, joining AHS, and the rest is history (for me).

There is a nice write up on them, with pics, in their local newspaper this week.

Thank you, Bob and Love, and best wishes of all future endeavors that you may now pursue. The daylily world is a better place for you two being part of it.

I am not sure that I have ever seen any of their daylilies. So many of the hybridizers and garden owners are in their late 70's, or 80's. I expect we will see a lot of closings during the next few years.

I don't believe I have seen any of their plants either. If anybody owns any of theirs it would be nice to post some pics of them.

I don't think that they were so well known for their hybrids, but for sharing with the daylily world, and fellow gardeners, plants such as HOT TOWN, OUTRAGEOUS, and SANDRA ELIZABETH (the mark for very lates)

that were hybridized by Don Stevens. They carried on Don's hybridizing efforts and sold them to us.

I still own those three.

I bought from the Seawrights for the first time this spring because they had a dl that I couldn't find anywhere else. I couldn't buy just one so I decided to order some lates & very lates including Bob's Carmine Elizabeth and Scarlet Elizabeth. They are pretty dls and they DO bloom late or very late. This year was so strange I couldn't tell. I did take pictures of at least one but don't have it on my computer yet. I think they were better that some other VLs I've tried.

DD

Edited to say that I realy hate to see them retire since I just got started ordering from them. Bob was very personable in his e-mails, too.

I was very lucky reading this post last year and ordered Carmine Elizabeth and Scarlet Elizabeth from Bob. He also sent Mount Zion and Margaret Seawright, which are great plants. The 2 Elizabeths are starting to bloom. All are really husky, sturdy plants. I'm not sure which is which but I will try to take pics of them.
