The days are shorter (~ 14 hrs daylight), the roofs were frosty the other morning and we are under a severe thunderstorm watch. Thought I had better take some photos today. Here's a little tour, starting with the front yard

Wow, Joanne, your place is absolutely beautiful! You have done an amazing job with what appears to be a relatively small space. It is just breathtaking!
Hee hee, you obviously don't have big, diggy dogs to "help" you! Hilarious!

Joanne, beautiful gardens! How wonderful to live where you can see the Aurora Borealis and not have to worry too much about the dreadful heat down here in the US! The view of the Rockies in the first pic is so beautiful!

Thanks everyone! The days are noticeable shorter and it was close to freezing a few nights ago. The photo actual is a cloud, but I do have a mountain view down the back alley. We are about 1 hour drive from the Rockies. I hope we have a nice fall with warm temps. Some years the petunias look good right into October. By mid October, the days are just too short with 10-1/2 hour daylight for anything.

Joanne: I agree with everyone, your gardens are truly beautiful. Lovey dubby Your property must be the envy of the neighborhood! I love all the colors!

Wow, you are seeing frost on the roof's already? It's still hot and humid down here with no sign of cool weather in sight. It will be another four months before we see any sign of frosty roofs. I look forward to some cooler temperatures but hopefully this winter won't be as cold as the past two have been. I'm ready to go back to the Florida winters of old where we only had a night or two when temp's dipped into the low 30's. The past two winters here have been brutal on tropical plants.

I keep going back and looking at your pictures and I must ask, what is the tree with the pretty gray/blue leaves? I see them in the photo with the window boxes on the side of the house and the swing ... by the way, that looks almost identical to one I had for many years until it finally succumbed to the weather. I miss that swing.

Thanks again for sharing your part of the world ... your gardens are so lovely!

Hi Lin,

That tree is a Russian Olive. Funny story, I bought it and misread the tag. Thought it was going to be a 26 inch shrub, not 26 feet x 26 feet. It is about 10 years old. I trimmed it to tree-form when it was about 6 feet tall. I blooms in June and the fragrance is strong but beautiful.

It's going to dip well below freezing and snow Tuesday/Wednesday so I took the "End of Season" photos. Here's a little slideshow. Give it a moment to load the show.
