Hi all,

I am thinking about spring, even though we still have snow on the ground!

I am looking for some sedum suggestions. What I would like is:

1) a trailing sedum hardy to zone 5 or 4, that I can keep in a frost proof hanging type container.

2) any type of cute tiny mounding types of sedums, also hardy to zone 5 or 4 for a rock garden.

So far I have some standing type sedums, blue spruce, angelina, "little miss sunshine", and turquoise tails.

I appreciate any suggestions!

Lynn Is there a source for Takeshima Stonecrop (Phedimus takesimensis Atlantis™ ? I love those variegated sedum. I have not seen one in the nurseries I visit?

I had to order it online, and paid $17.00 for a one quart container, plus shipping. I wouldn't recommend the nursery I got it from. This is what I got in a one quart pot. That is one of the disposable plastic tags it is laying on. It was just starting to make roots from the cutting.


I just found another nursery that is selling it this year. I see there are good reviews in our Green Pages.

Although it is chancy, I think I will wait a couple of weeks to order it as I am not sure about the ship dates and things in CO are still prone to freezes up until the first week or two of May. I really do like the looks of that sedum.

I think you will really love this one Marilyn. It should make it in your growing zone once it has acclimated. Good idea to wait a bit.

OK here we go. We lost a couple of plants to the heat and full sun here in
Houston, TX and one was Sedum morganianum 'burrito'
So what should I consider for a replacement here in Houston, TX in full sun
with our hot and humid weather?

Just don't give it full sun. Filtered sun, like under a deciduous tree. Or morning sun and rest of the day shade.
Cactus? Agave? Aloe, so many different one and all have amazing blooms.

So are you saying that I should not replace these plants as the place
gets full sun most of the day and the other plants that are planted in
this bowl are doing just fine. What should I consider?

Can you show us a photo of the bowl, that way we can get an idea of what is doing well. It would make it easier to figure out what would work in that bowl to replace the plant that died. Looking forward to seeing it.

Well pictures at this time is not my forte but I can tell you.
This bowl gets full sun in the afternoon and right now is being
shaded by a large holly bush. The plants that are in it currently
and doing very well with some new growth are the Firestick
Euphorbia tirucalli; Graptopetalum paraguayense 'Ghost Plant';
Anacampseros telephiastrum variagata 'Sunrise'; and my
Crasula ovata 'Hobbit Jade'

So what would you add. perhaps another type of Euphorbia?

Tarev, you are so good with the tender succulents, maybe you have a suggestion for Willinator for a new plant to replace the
Sedum morganianum?

One suggestion I got was Senecio serpens

Or, how about Senecio mandraliscae? Looks like it might spill down the side of the container as it grows.
