I have an orchid that isn't listed in the database yet and I don't know or understand all the terms regarding orchids so I was wondering if one of the administrators can enter this one so I can upload a couple of my pictures? Smiling

Laeliocattleya Tropical Pointer 'Cheetah'

I don't know if any of this information will help with the entry but it's a cross. Laeliocattleya Tropic Glow x Cattleya Intermedia, with the Clonal name of Cheetah.

edited to add: The tag also says BM/JOGA which I've learned stands for: Bronze Medal/Japanese Orchid Growers Association

Thanks!

Lin

Well, Laeliocattleya is the genus. There would probably be no species name for this plant.

The word 'Cheetah' being inside single quotes would indicate that it is the cultivar, but what is "Tropical Pointer" referring to? I don't know.

Dave,

Yes, it's genus Laeliocattleya and the cultivar is Cheetah. Some of the orchid nomenclature is very confusing to me but I went ahead and entered the genus and cultivar. I read somewhere that Tropical Pointer is a generic term for ANY cross between the orchid Laeliocattleya 'Tropic Glow' and the orchid Cattleya 'intermedia' and I wasn't sure if that was required for the database but I can put it in the comments section when I upload my pictures.

Thanks for always being so helpful!

That's interesting information, Lin, thank you for that. Yes, I think that would be very useful as a comment!
