I was wondering when I do a search on a name or subject the returns are not in post date order?

Are they in start of thread date order?

It would be nice if they were in post date order.

Sometimes I read something and I think, " OH I'll go back and read that again" but when I search on the name of the poster the list comes back with mixed dates
Thumb of 2012-08-29/CDsSister/0a4e1b

Could it be made to search from posted item within the thread?

Dave will have to answer about the ordering.

Let me recommend to use the star feature for marking something you'd like to look at again later. It serves as a bookmark, and you can find all of your stared pages on your profile page.

And the star feature allows you to bookmark a single post, so it's quite handy!

Thanks, I have put stars on some but really never knew how to get back to them. How about a star on home page

to retrieve items of interest??/

Lazy??? I guess I seem to be but things that allow a quick return to items of interest would be great!!!!

I'll see what he says about the way the returned search items are sorted. If I understand it better, maybe it will be OK.

Thanks for your responses. I tip my hat to you. I tip my hat to you.

All you have to do is to go to your profile page and click on the number of starred items and it will take you to a list of the items you have "starred." Smiling

I did find it and it is fairly easy to use.

I will try to remember to use the star so I can go back and look at posts of interest.

Thanks, to all for your help.

the star is a great feature...

BUT...for new folks just coming to ATP doing a search..."I wonder if they've ever talked about ____?"
Having the search results come up in some kind of reasonable order would be nice.

The search results come up in a "closest match", just like Google and other search engines do.

But is their a sort after the find

Could the results be further prioritized in some way? Such as date of post?

Thanks Dave, we seem to always ask for more, more, more. *Blush*

If I am searching on "Neil" as I was yesterday, looking for something he said that I wanted to go back to.......

I never did find it. And I spelled it Neil and Niel and searched and searched ...

Thanks, And I too like the new avatar.

It was Neilmuir from England.

And he has hundreds of posts so finding the one I was looking for is very hard, and now I have forgotten what exactly I was searching, *Blush*

But if the results had been in posting date order I think I could have found it, as it was only within 30 -40 minutes of his posting

that I started my search. Of course it has now been over 24 hours Whistling

Oh well, I will try to remember the star. Rolling my eyes.

In a case like that, going to his profile page and clicking to view all the posts made by him would have produced it pretty quick because those results are in fact ordered by date.

When you have a specific thing you're looking up, they are almost always sorted by date.

When you have a text search it is almost never sorted by date but rather closest match, and that can't be altered without significantly losing the strength of the search engine, which is something I'm not keen on doing.

If there are other browsing options I can create, though, I'll be glad to consider them!
