When you type perilla into the search it comes up with 3 perilla magilla
Please some one with more deciding powers figure what one is correct and stays, there are several photos involved

are these the same plant?

They're not the same. P. frutescens is a different plant from P. frutescens var. frutescens.

The Perilla Magilla thing is something of a mess because one is a Coleus (or maybe both of them are), so I'll look into that one and fix it.

Okay, it's cleared up now, Cinda. Perilla 'Magilla' is a Coleus look-alike, is related to Coleus, and is even sold as a Coleus or Plectranthus by various nurseries, but it is a Perilla, so I've moved everything to the Perilla listing and deleted the other two. Thanks for finding this.

P. frutescens and P.frutescens var. frutescens

My brain says it is like my name First, last and middle name or just first and last name , both a way to describe me (the same person).
I really am trying to understand , but if I am just a bother it is OK not to respond I will not be upset

More like last, first, and middle name, in that order. There's Perilla (the surname). Perilla frutescens (the first name) and then a few subspecies of P. frutescens, corresponding to different middle names: P. frutescens var. crispa, P. frutescens var. frutescens, and P. frutescens var. hirtella. There once were 7 other subspecies in the classification, but now they're mere synonyms of other subspecies.
