Hi, Gee ,Jo Ann! your artwork is fantastic! I love to see so much talent!(probably 'cause the only thing I'm good at is falling down! Rolling on the floor laughing ). We lost our last cat a few years ago Sad (at age 20, we had to put her down because of intestinal tumors) and there wasn't a dry eye in the whole neighborhood! We also decided to go "pet-less" for a while, till we're done with our "wonder lust", probably. Arlyn

Jo Ann Such nice art work. I can only dream of doing anything with water colors, never got the nack of that stuff. When my dad was a kid, his older brothers used to call him Meow, cause he was such a cat lover. Funny thing is, I have never actively sought out a cat as a pet, they seem to know a sucker when they see one. Every once in a while a not for profit vet clinic runs a special where they will fix your cats for about $25 for females, and 15 for males. I try to take advantage of those specials when I can. Otherwise it's $60/$45. I have two females that need to be fixed soon. I have them in my garage so they don't get pregnant until I can get them up to the clinic. It's an hour drive from here. Have to drop them off early in the morning, and then drive back and pick them up in the PM.

Jerry is my last cat. Its just too hard to maintain the litter etc and catching him to go to the vets but he is a great companion. I will miss him so for now I enjoy where I can.

GD is talkinbg about a cat that will surely be left here when she graduates from college in May. Its OK because the vet bills will be someone elses.

I agree What a sweetie pie!! Don't know if she qualifies as a Calico, though, Polly. I guess she has to, because of the orange, but she's a Tabby cat otherwise. Confused

Thanks.

In the sun you can see a lot of orange on her back, also.

Orange on her back too? Well -- she's gotta qualify. It almost looks like she has orange on her left front toes as well.................??

She's actually what's called a Tortoiseshell or Tortie for short. A true calico has large patches of black or grey, yellow or buff, and white. The tortie has black or grey and yellow or buff, but the colors are more mixed together. Sometimes they have white too. Here's a link that tells about them. They're both really pretty types of cats and always female. I think that's because the color gene is connected to the X chromosome and since a female has two X's, they can have more then one color expressed. A male only has one X and one Y so they can only express one color, the white seems to be controled by another gene. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T...

Tom I thought the same thing. I had a Tortie, sge only liked me and was tempramental as to how long and how much petting she wanted. She nipped at strangers who tried to pet her.

Interesting. So according to that article, Polly's kitty is a *tortie-tabby* -- sometimes called a *torbie*. And I had a tortoiseshell kitty once, and didn't even know it!!

Harriet had a small patch of orange tiger below her neck.
Since it resembled my Orange Tiger that had preceeded her.I actually named her Harryette but the other spelling just happened.

She does have orange and white on her toes. Torbie, huh, how cute.

She is good with everyone she likes, but runs and hides from ones she doesn't. She likes 3 of the Fed Ex guys, but there's one she hides from, and the only thing we can figure is he came in the garage last winter and stomped his feet. She will sit on most peoples laps, but won't let anyone carry her around.

Maybe she was confined at some time before she found you.
Thats what I like about cats, they are completely themselves and cant be forced to do anything.I just make a war home and food and 900 places to nap in the house.

Lots of cats are like that -- like to be on laps, don't like to be carried. I think that most of mine are probably like that, come to think of it. I don't try to force the issue.
