It is so irritating when you pay for a service (like priority mail) yet it takes just as long as regular mail. I sent a package to Georgia on Sat (to Casshigh) and it still hasn't arrived yet. It went to Baton Rouge, LA for some reason instead of the usual route. I asked someone who used to work with the postal service about this and they said a lot of times the delays are with the airlines. If the flight going to one destination is full they will load any excess packages and mail onto another flight which may be going the opposite direction it needs to. I had sent another package to a different part of Georgia the same day and it got there Monday, same as packages going clear cross country.
It's frustrating because you send out nice, green plants and then it takes forever for them to arrive and they probably won't be green any longer.

I send my daughter a box to Hawaii almost every month. For some reason, if I mail it from our small town post office on Saturday morning, it usually arrives at her place by Monday. Can you believe that? It must hit the planes just right I guess.

When purchasing plants, especially from the LA, I calculate shipping fees in my head into the purchase. Which means I usually have to purchase 1 or 2 other plants from the same seller, just to make things even out. Isn't that a great excuse??? Whistling ~Jan

We received Michele's (Tink) daylilies today. They arrived in great shape. The extra couple of days in shipping did not adversely affect them at all. While I have your attention, let me tell you about the great daylilies we received from Michele. She sent extra fans for everything except one which she emailed us about being small because of "the milorganite in the pots episode" that she told us about here. Michelle did not have to send all the extra fans BUT SHE DID, and we really appreciate them. The two monster fans with great roots that she sent of Mark Alan Perry are the largest we have EVER received and the largest that I have ever seen. Michele sent an extra fan of MAP to make up for the small daylily that had not recovered from the milorganite problem. Thank you, Michele.

Shipped out a lot today.

To Ak, 8 plants, 17 (cost her 15 to ship same box to here with pickup)
To Ok, 6 plants, 28

but those were trades and they wouldn't fit into flat rate boxes by a long shot! They were good size boxes (one a copy paper box)

Most shoe boxes were 9.80 to 12.50 (I love those shoe boxes so much more than big shirt boxes)

Two to local areas were 7 and 8

All priority.

I had charge 10 for two plants.

I too have heard and used the Sat shipping to get there Mon. Ellen Laprise told me that secret.

Yes the Sat shipping is usually the best. Out of the 38 boxes I shipped out that Sat, I believe it was 3 or 4 that didn't make it on Monday but got there on Tues. I have to be careful with my time though because the post offices around here either are closed on Sat or close at 11:30 or 12:00. There is one that stays open until 2:00 (just an outpost kind of place, not a full scale post office) and I actually am sooooooo thankful it is there because I missed getting to mine by 5 min. I thought they closed at 12:30 ( I think they used to) but it was 12:00 and I was panicking about these 38 boxes not getting mailed and having to sit in boxes over the weekend.
I was googling post office location from hear to Alabama to see if there were any that stayed open all day like they used to. That was a close one Blinking

They only stay open from 10:00 to 12:00 here on Saturday also. Know what you mean about watching the time closely, lol.

Yes, Post Offices have changed in the last few years. Our local one used to open from 8-12 now it's closed on Saturdays. The next town over,(5 miles), is open from 8:30 to 10:30 only on Saturday. They moved our Tupelo, Ms distribution center 100 miles to Memphis, so we now ship from Guntown to Memphis back to Tupelo. The old direct way was 15 miles, the new and improved way is 215 miles!!!! I feel sorry for the folks that work at our PO's they are catching alot of flack for stuff the big time guys are doing. I forsee no service at all on Saturdays pretty soon.

Mine came from Michele on Monday. I'm in Washington!! the State. Never been that fast from the east coast. I did heard that the USPS is doing some kind of count which slows things. Should be over first part of October.

I just got the plants I ordered from Bobbie - they are really nice! Big pieces, and a generous amount of each one I wanted.

I certainly would not hesitate to order from her again!

Thanks so much Bobbie!

The Priority shipping label has a place for a eturn address and I had always been putting my return address label on the shipping label until a couple of years ago. I mailed a package to PA and it went to a small post office which scanned the shipping label but picked up the zip code on my return address so it was sent back to Nashville. Upon arriving in Nashville, where they had more modern scanning machines, the label was scanned corectly and immediately sent back to PA, which promptly sent it back to Nashville. This went on for ten days before it finally arrived at its destination. Needless to say the daylily was yellowed and dried out. The problem was finally explained to me by a local post master who did some digging into the problem. Since that time, I NEVER put my return address on the Priority shipping label.
