It's in our database too:

http://cubits.org/roses/db/ros...

It's beautiful. It looks like Tradescant with a lighter reverse.

This is another new one I like -- Young Lycidas:

Mauve is not common in Austin roses. Charles Rennie Mackintosh is the only one I can think of. It's a beautiful rose, but it's difficult to find.

Here in New York it is -3 degrees this morning, and we're buried under so much accumulated snow (with more on the way this week) that I don't think I'll see the soil again till June! So for now I'm living vicariously through Cubits posts and rose catalogs, dreaming of warmer days and bounteous blooms!

Zuzu - actually, my highest winter bill this year yet has been above $50. Last month my natural gas (forced heat) was $46. Tiny house, EXTREMELY well insulated to the point that I've opened windows in a snowstorm to get some fresh air! Ugh!! Especially in the bird room.. that's where the kitty litters are w/the birdies so it gets dusty & squirrelly pretty quick. We've had a very very very very VERY mild winter this year. Right now it's about 30degs F, but completely overcast which makes it feel colder. And windy. & depressing. Saturday it was sunny but EXTREMELY windy.. 30-60 MPH winds w/gusts in the 60s-80 MPH. Had a nasty time at the dogpark.. got so badly windburned on my cheeks. :(

And I can see why you posted that gorgeous rose 3 times.. I should wander around & see where I can find one! That *is* a beautiful rose!!

Mike - Be grateful you're getting so much moisture. If at any time you have too much snow, FedEx it my way. We normally have had about 2' by now.. we haven't gotten squat. I'm just praying for a nice fat slush storm soon.. I'm tired of having to water everything.

LOL Mike!

Toni, I edited Zuzu's hiccup threads, odd that it repeated 3X so now there is only one.

Mike - UPS works too.. but they just stop by my house SOOOOOOO late on their route (gotten packages at like 830 at night??). I don't care if you use the pony express, just send me some of your snow! LOL!!

I am jealous, my heating bill is more than that, but running th a/c costs more than running the heat. At least I don't have to pay extra for water. One neighbor's pipes froze last night and another had a fire, so I am thankful to be safe and warm today. Don't get me started on the USPS here, we don't get mail delivery so I have to walk up to the post office. I have had numerous problems with mail, especially packages, getting lost. It is a crazy town, especially today.

I hadn't noticed Janet before. There are so many Austin roses, I may have forgotten that one.

Sounds like a real bargain, Toni. I think that's even lower than my gas bill in warm weather. I'm paying $140 plus a $10 surcharge for gas this month and I never turn the thermostat above 62. The houses here are barely insulated at all, though. Mine had that funny insulation that looks like mouse droppings. I think it was balled-up pieces of newspaper impregnated with something or other. The attic was filled with it when the house was built in 1942, but there's hardly any left now.

I didn't even know my thread hiccuped. I did notice it was taking an inordinately long time to move, and as I waited for it to load, I would notice little things that needed editing, so I stopped the process and edited twice. I guess it actually was sending it each time but not telling me that the post had been sent.

Janet is one of my favorite, favorite Austins, Andi. Both Janet and Grace are smaller than other Austins and I love their look and their habit.

When I visited my parents this summer to install a rose garden for them, I put in two Janets. So very many healthy canes on each one!

Zuzu - Yea, that sounds like the blown insulation. I have 2' of the yellow fiberglass insulation (like the Pink Panther stuff, but yellow), then 2' of the blown insulation on top of that. Double-paned gas-filled windows (just replaced the original 1983 aluminum framed-windows).. life's good in the winter now. Smiling Before, holy crap.. I would actually have 2-4" of ice on the INSIDE Of the windows!! I also had 16 aquariums, which kept the humidity levels ridiculously high (between 60-80%) in the winter, which would then freeze on the windows. Not to mention the mold (had to scrub the window sills with bleach every week to keep the mold down).. Gas bill went from like $100 down to $30-$50 month, depending on temps. This month it will probably be around $65 because I've been cranking up the heat (keeping the heat around 70 when I take shower.. that's when I get chilled plus I *HATE* crawling into a cold bed, but it drops back down to 64 around midnight).

Today's so deceptive. It's a beautiful clear day.. sky's a whitish blue (perfect winter's day) and it *looks* so warm. But it was only 19 when we took off for work this morning and supposed to go up into the 40s. Would be nice...

My only Austin, Molineux, was OK last year... I'm a lousy rose mom, so I *may* have to move her this spring.. I know I'm going to have to move Enchanted Evening as it definitely didn't like where I put it.. that one & Oklahoma didn't like where I put them (too shaded I guess).
