Yes, I don't like that idea myself at all. December is awefully late for planting bulbs. Sad

I was still planting bulbs at the end of January last year, and they grew and bloomed wonderfully! I was pleased, but still amazed that they would do so.

From what I have read, as long as you can dig in the soil, that is its not frozen, you can still plant. But I hate to have to hope for a January thaw in order to plant bulbs. Besides the ground is so cold in the winter even when not frozen. Not nice to have to work in that icy cold ground.

Yeah; cold hands!

I won't be doing that this year, but it was nice to be able to try a bunch of different bulbs that I'd never before grown. Smiling

Spring is here~ 68° today! We finally got some rain yesterday, and weather warmed. The lawn turned green overnight, and the air feels like springtime. This is great.

Wasn't it great? Short-lived no doubt, but a 70° day in December is definitely a bonus.

Tamara, yuck mice. Hope you got them all. I had some in my basement a few weeks back and had to keep putting out the poison until they were all gone. I actually found a dead rat down there one day.

Jo Anne, I sure would not mind a repeat of the mild winter we had here last year. I don't remember a freezing spring.

Up here the lilies and othr plants emerged 2 weeks early. The early lilies were up about 6 inches to 1 foot and in mid April we got 4 hard freezes in 10 days at least thats what it seems.
Many lilies didnt bloom, other plants didnt booom like astilbes and there were plants that only grew half way.
I dont ever want to experience that again.

I hope the squirrells left me some crocus. I planted 500 of the large flowered mix in between my roses in my southside rose garden. Now I see that there are plenty of holes where the squirrels must have dug up the bulbs. Hopefully not all of them. Now there are fall leaves as mulch spread over them so that the squirrels hopefully will no longer notice that they are there.

My garden is totally put to bed for the winter and I am done and waiting for spring. The fall mulching with leaves was the last chore of the year and that is totally finished. Come spring, all the garden work starts again but you all know that I just love my garden.
