Make sure that you expand the picture. It's not that big.

Bad thing is that it was almost a record high in the 60s on Friday, was in the 50s on Saturday & Sunday. Yesterday we got a teeny ice storm in the morning, then it snowed off & on all day, but it was the powdery stuff, so no moisture.

Brr. I will say it's cold out there.

The high yesterday was 20F. And there are still spots on the north sides of hills near us where the snow from Christmas is still in evidence; but it's melting and nearly gone. The trickling seasonal stream is running in the rill at the edge of the property. It still gets into the twenties nearly every night, though by Saturday we'll be returning to seasonal highs in the high fifties and low sixties. We have to draw the blinds on much of the south-facing glass to keep the house from overheating during the day.

Starting to go through seed catalogues and place orders for things that I'll squeeze into the garden - I don't know where.

Yesterday's high was -1. Right now, it's still -7, so it's still definitely heavy-coat weather. No wind, though, which is a BLESSING which means no windchill. Last night dropped to -17 (officially). I think that this Feb is going to be like a few years ago.. so evilly cold that everything is going to suffer. The trees were starting to swell a little.. I'm hoping that either the weather comes back to our normals or at least make up it's mind if it wants to be deep winter or spring! Something!!

bleh.

Steve - I think we almost ALL have THAT problem.. "Oh my, what a pretty (insert plant). I *have* to have it." You get it. Now where on earth do you put it??? LOL!!

I wish I had the problem of the house overheating, we are not set up for the kind of cold weather we are getting this week.

Skiekitty is that Weather Underground? They recently revamped/ruined their site - here at least.

PPal - Yea, that's WUnderground. Been using that site now for about 6 years or so, just habit. Don't really care for weather.com, so I use Wunder or Accuweather. I am not sure if I like their new revamp.. seems that the info I'm looking for is spread all over rather than in 1 spot. But, it's free, so I don't bitch. Big Grin

We got 19" of snow Tuesday night - Weds. AM.
Not the most we've ever had but all at once makes for
lots of shoveling and plowing.
Hubby was snow blowing for 7 hours yesterday!

19" of snow sounds like a good excuse to buy a tractor. And I think an orange one is perfect for moving snow.

How many horsepower is that one? Does it have a power take off shaft? I have to ask just in case I might want to attach a hay bailer or wood chipper. (Even though I don't have a field. Or a chainsaw,)

We were lucky. One of our neighbors clears the driveway of another of our neighbors. And he offered to do our driveway when we got 9 inches around Christmas. Otherwise, we'd have been snowed in for a week or more.

holy crap, look at some places in NY.. in the negative 30s & 40s. Wow. Haven't seen weather like that since my last winter up there in 2000. Yikes. It's outright balmy here today... 37 degs. First time above freezing all week. Yay! But, we got another storm coming in on Sunday, so not bothering to wash my van yet.

PPal - You can go to the old sight with the classic.weatherunderground.com address.

Steve: The tractor in the picture appears to be a 6060 Allis-Chalmers with the 4WD option. It has a PTO which most farm size tractors have. One on the internet was a 1981 model for $12,000, no hours running time listed. With most tractors, a 30 or 40 year old model in barely running condition can cost more than it did new.

Added: Drawbar hp=50.87 PTO hp=63.83

I'm sorry. I can't resist. It's 5:15 in the afternoon right now and it's still 79 degrees. It was so hot today that I had to wear a sundress and sandals while I worked outside. Too hot for real shoes.

Yes...please kindly refrain from telling us how warm it is in Cali right now and we'll refrain from telling you how green our grass is and how balmy and pleasant it is here this summer. Rolling on the floor laughing

Thank you Jerry for the info on the tractor! There's nothing quite like the joy of tooling around outdoors on a tractor. Looking for excuses to do it that don't involve tending livestock.

We have antique power days at most of our county fairs with the equipment ranging from old steam powered tractors to the more "modern" models of the 30's and 40's. Old tractors are as collectible as old autos in the farm belt. Keep your eyes on farm sales if you are interested in buying a tractor. There are so many imported brands that you may find one fitting your needs without paying an arm and leg for it.
