But they're hard to get in this country for the first couple of years. He's in Australia and you have to pay a large phytosanitary fee to have them shipped here.

Does anybody know if Keith Keppel will still be offering some of the latest Blyth iris? I know he is cutting way back on the distribution part of his business, but haven't heard if that means he'll just be selling his own introductions or if he will still have some of the newest Blyth iris as well.

I haven't heard what Keppels intentions are regarding the Blyth lines, he used to offer many of them. I don't know if Brad saw any of these as seedlings when he was at Keppel's this spring or not. I am quite certain to make an order for Tempo 2 this spring. They were not really that much higher then getting new intro's here, at least the last time there was a favorable exchange rate in currancy. Not sure if that is still the case. Brad, you had some imported last year, what was the cost per rhizome if you don't mind sharing? I can see at least 5 or 6 that I can't live without, lol May have to take out a second mortgage! Well, wouldn't you know that I already emailed Keith this morning (brazen hussy that I am), and here is what he said: "I do have all but one, I think -- but just barely, as most only came in this past spring and have not yet settled in. There are a couple I probably will have, but will have to wait and evaluate plants on the others before committing...."

I also hinted that I would just love to see pictures of his new intros like in December, when it's cold and foggy outside, but he responded that that's when he has the time to get everything ready for his catalog, website, etc. So I guess I'll once again have to wait until January. Sticking tongue out

I guess I've just been spoiled by the daylily hybridizers that are already posting their 2013 introductions... nodding

Betty - maybe a softer approach would get the results you want. You just need to "tone" it down a bit. Smiling

Tom I did not think it was that bad I paid 40.00 for the phytosanitary permit and the shipping for all of them was 70.00 if I remember right and I figured I would have paid shipping costs buying them anywhere so I was pleased. I found out with these newer ones he sells out fast on some, I ordered in early Feb and he was sold out of some the ones I wanted so I would imagine some of these will go fast as well.

I do have a few pictures of some of these but a lot of his just had seedling numbers on them so I won't know what's what until the catalog comes out with the number but here are a few that I have and a couple of my favorite Blyth Seedlings as always the colors are fantastic but there was so many good ones I could of spent weeks there and found something new every day.

Polly Thanks I had alot of fun taking them My favorite is Nothing But Class so far.. The color combo of the Orange and Blues is talking to me, of the 1000's of seedlings I looked at this year know one had any good Orange ones that stood out like his did.. but once I get the catalog it may change they always look better and he lists the parents in it which is a bonus for me , If you are not on his list for one send him a email and he will send it to you free of charge His catalog is the best of all of them in my opinion.

Tom the black and white one really stood out it had beautiful colors very unique as most of his are but...I think my favorite seedlings were Joe Ghio's and Mid America's those guys have some really impressive beautiful new color patterns. There was a article in the latest Tall talk magazine about Joe's which had some really good descriptions in it and I think I have pictures of most of them to share,If your not a member the magazine is well worth the small Membership fee I highly recommend it. I was just waiting on it to get a little colder outside when we can't work in the garden anymore and then I thought we do some threads on seedlings if there is a interest for it, I am curious to see which are the Favorites for different people.

Here are a some from different gardens that I liked a lot I am not sure if any will be given a name and introduced, I would Love to have any of them in my garden

That second one looks a lot like Luxuriant Lathario, very pretty, and the second from the bottom has some new striking colors. Fourth one down has some bold color, and the third from the bottom is interesting too. It would be fun to see a thread of seedlings, I'm sure you have lots of pics, and others might too.

The third from the bottom reminds me of *Like Wow* -- which I just added this year. I also love the second from the bottom -- I like the really unusual colors/combinations.

Oh heck -- I like them all!! Like Brad said -- I'd love to have any of them (or all of them) in my garden! Lovey dubby Lovey dubby Gonna go back now and expand each picture to look at details. Smiling

I have a question. Why wouldn't a hybridizer name and sell any given (or all) of those seedlings? Does it cost money? Is there a downside to it? If I created any of the Irises that Brad showed us, I'd be trying to market it, so I'm wondering why the hybridizers of those Irises wouldn't. ???

I'm not an expert but maybe while they are pretty faces they could be slow growers, reluctant bloomers, stem and placement problems etc. Also some with gorgeous colors have open standards. I don't mind slightly open standards but I hate open standards that don't remain erect and flop.

The last one certainly has a placement problem the bunch of flower looks like a clump of daises. Flowers last about 3 or 4 days. One rush & they're gone. Blooming by one or twos makes the bloom last longer.

Mary Ann you have great eyes the 3rd from the bottom was a Schreiners seedling Smiling the same hybridizer as Like Wow and I think Paul is right they must go through a pretty stringent process to get introduced and I am glad they do, it just means when I buy the plant it should flower and grow well year after year. I think a lot like you as I will buy a beautiful flower with a little less buds and maybe a little tight on the branching if it is unique and way different than anything else out there. I think you will see some of these for sale in the years to come.

Lucy most of the pictures I have from Oregon were taken as they were at peak or just a little past so I don't know if that one opened all at once or that is a flower that the blooms last a very long time, I know most of the older varities did in fact bloom and were done in 3 days but the newer ones with tighter standards will last a lot longer and hold up so much better to the weather. The reason that particular flower talks to me is the coloring of it, the blue pink color is unique and the beards compliment wonderfully not to mention the smell was really really good on it Smiling I will try to find a couple more pictures of it I know I saw it in different locations in there garden.
