The snow word belongs in October!
It seems to have by passed the city, but it is close by.
I am still planting bulbs, and I just bought some more junipers.

Now late morning---everything is coated---rooftops and cars.
Not the ground or roadways---they still must be too warm.

It was just a dusting of snow yesterday.
This morning there is definitely frost!
I still have dahlias, cannas etc. to bring in.
I bring things into garage first and spray for bugs--then bring into house.
Dahlias and cannas are saved as roots only.

26 here this am. Lots of dead stuff to clean up. Thumbs down Probably should go dig up the dahlias and glads. Can't believe we still have bugs flying around! Lots of yellow jackets and hornets and wasps make it hard to work outside.

Wrong person to ask! This is the first year I've grown glads, so I'm hoping someone knowledgeable will chime in here! And I need to research storing dahlias, too. I generally just grow them from seed each year, but I have a couple of gorgeous ones from Mike's Co-op that I want to rescue.

23 here this morning, nice and sunny so it should warm up by noon. I had a few daylilies that had put up scapes late so of course they got frozen before they had a chance to open. Sad

And speaking of daylilies, am I supposed to cut back the foliage on them? I know next to nothing about the care and feeding of daylilies. *Blush*

Woofie, some people cut it down, but I leave it, I think it helps insulated them from the cold, a natural mulch, I do the cleanup in the spring. You can cut the old scapes down now.

I am bringing in canna, dahlia and acidanthera roots. They will dry in large paper bags and then I'll store them in boxes
of vermiculite and/or peat. I think that you need to inspect them, and check for molds and keep them from drying too much.

I thought I read somewhere something about giving dahlia tubers a rinse in bleach solution to kill off any mold. Anyone know anything about that?

When I grew tuberous begonias I dusted them with a fungicide to prevent mold and mildew before storing.
