Found some good information on storing dahlias here. You have to scroll down the page to get to the storage information. Dangerous site, tho, they have some really nice looking dahlias for sale... Green Grin!

Shannon, about storing glads, you wait a week or so after the first hard frost when the foliage is dying, dig them up, and break the tops off. Some people put an anti-fungal powder on them but I've been growing them for alot of years and I never have and they've been fine. Spread them out in a cardboard box in a dry place like a garage for a week . Then store in a cool place at around 40-45F in a box or a pail without a cover or even in a paper bag. If you don't have a cool basement you can always put them in your bottom crisper in your fridge. A nursery owner that breeds them told me about breaking the tops off when you dig them. I use to leave the foliage on when I dug them and then cut it off when I was going to store them, but breaking them off when you dig them is a lot easier.

to pull up & store. I can put them all under my house for now it stays cool there

Shrug! I've never put mine in peat but I don't know why it would hurt.
