Some of the bulbs I ordered for this fall already arrived so by Monday I had already planted 872 tulip bulbs. Now I still am waiting on my orders from Brent&Beckies and Colorblends to be at least 1,400 more bulbs to plant. I had ordered hyacinths, dutch iris, crocus, daffs and tulips.

But I had ment to also order from Scheepers, never got to doing it. But was thinking about it yesterday. So today I go to Van Engelen, the wholesale division of Scheepers and much cheaper in larger quantities. I ordered 1,600 MORE bulbs. I really must be daft.

600 crocus
100 iris RETICULATA
250 daffodils
650 tulips

I am sorting, or really just sorted thru a Scheepers bulb order that the UPS guy just delivered a short while ago. I hauled the big box into my living room and checked all the bulbs. Now this is an order that I did a few days after I had ordered my massive order of 1,600 bullbs from Van Engelen. But there was still stuff I wanted and mostly in smaller quantities which is why I did get the from the Van Engelen part. That or stuff I just forgot to order. So here I now have 645 bulbs crocus, tulips and daffodils from Scheepers.

I have been planting steadly these past few weeks as luckily not everything has come at once so as I had bulb orders arrive I could get on with the planting. But that huge Van Engelen order is still to arrive so I will not be finished with the planting any time soon. Of course now I have to get going with these bulbs that just arrived., And I already feel like I have been planting fall bulbs for weeks. Actually, I HAVE been planting fall bulbs for weeks.

The thing that keeps me going and is my motivation is how stunning it will all look in the spring. And it should be a long spring show with the bulbs starting with snow crocus and ending with late tulips. And everything in between. I have daffs to add from really early to late blooming and I already know from the daffs already here that my spring daffodil bloom shows lasted for two whole months this spring. And I have lots more added or to add thus fall to make next spring even better. And the tulips. I have never gotten so many and such a wide variety of tulips before.

Wow Rita... would you say you need a minute per bulb?
I mean, you need to work the ground, dig holes, etc...
That's 69 hours.
In 3 days you're done Smiling

I don't know how long I need. I do know I am slow. I get tired, I get very stiff and I have to get up and rest. But then I just go on. When I say planting for weeks, not everyday. Sometimes it rains. And I just can't plant all day from early morning till night. Too tired after a few hours. But the planting has gone on for weeks here so I have been planting for weeks. Not done yet either.

The last of my bulb orders just arrived from UPS. This would be my largest order of my 1,600 bulbs from Van Engelen. I am sorting thru them and putting them in piles as to what part of the yard and location they go in. Makes planting easier as I can just start on a pile and location and go plant. My living room is full of stacks and groupings of bulbs.

I knooow, I was just composing a math problem for grade 1 or 2? :)
Who can go on planting bulbs for hours and days?
And let's face it, bulbs are special.
First spring excitement is when I spot green tips coming through the ground.

Rita, I'm cheering you on! I'm also hoping you weathered the big storm all right. I think somebody mentioned seeing you post elsewhere, so hopefully that's true, and hopefully you & yours are fine.

I'm guessing you didn't do any planting this weekend though... must be mud soup out there!

We are on high ground so thankfully the drainage is good. But mostly rain since last Sunday with yesterday being the only decent day all week. So I didn't get planting done. I still have a lot of bulbs here in my living room to get done. Power only came back on here last night.

I have never had to plant in November before but I will keep working on it and get it done.

Newyorkrita , I know you will get them all in and then we will all enjoy the Big Show when you post pictures next spring. What a treat it will be.

I haven't started to plant ours yet, probably next week if the weather is good. I did plant a few tulips at our Vt house on Sunday. I spent today doing more cleaning up of the beds here in Nantucket as it was lovely out. Tomorrow we are getting another storm, so that will put a damper on working outside for a couple of days. We have one more order of bulbs to arrive which are being shipped tomorrow from Brent and Becky, so then we can commence to commence. Bulb auger on the electric drill at the ready as are my trusty dibbles. I have moved them all out to the porch and covered them with a tarp to keep them dry so they are getting close to being planted, all 2687 which is the smallest number that we will be planting in Nantucket for many years. My DH is going to be very happy with my attempt at frugality. Though there are the upcoming sales!!!! Patti

I just ordered on the Van Engelen 40% off fall sale. I haven't done the tally, but I did some damage, at least another 1000. Yippee. Patti
