Is it worth it to join the national AHS? Do you get alot of daylily catalogs? My neck is about to break from looking at the computer all day looking up and at daylilies and it would be nice to have paper catalogs to page through from the comfort of my easy chair. And can you call in your request to join over the phone or do you have to submit your request with your cc number via the internet? I'm only interested in joining the national AHS, not a local society? Any other benefits that you like if you are a member?.......Maryl

Maryl,

I feel it is well worth it!
You get 4 beautiful full color daylily journals each year with fantastic articles/pictures.
The AHS website has an on-line portal to chat and share pictures with other daylily people.
The first time you join, you get a $25 voucher to spend at one of many daylily farms/hybridizers.
I also recieve many daylily catalogs as hybridizers tend to use AHS membership as their targeted market.

Hope this helps!
Lisa

I don't know about calling to join the AHS, there is a phone/fax number on the membership form you could try. You can either join online or you can print out the membership form and mail it in with a check or CC info. I just do it online and pay with paypal.

Pat Mercer is in charge of membership at AHS - her email is [email protected]

She would be happy to answer any questions you have.

I do feel it is worth it. I used to get a LOT of catalogs 20 years ago - but many hybridizers have changed to having websites. The cost of printing and mailing thousands of catalogs is quite high. Now, I still get a few catalogs, but not nearly as many. The National and Regional newsletters are great. There is also the AHS E-mail Robin. Lots of good info on there. You have to be a member to join the E-mail robin.

It is so worth it! I agree with the comments above, the journal is fantastic. Also the voucher! nodding Many nursery's take the voucher, some even offer more than the 25.00 value, depends on the nursery. I used mine at Maryott's and got some fabulous things...for CHEAP!!!! I have recieved a few more catalogs too. I enjoyed my first year so much I went ahead and took out a three year membership. It's really hard to go wrong. Thumbs up nodding

When you join the AHS, you automatically become a member of the region that you live in. Oklahoma is in Region 11. You will then receive your region's newletters, too. I think joining the AHS is a good thing to do. You will get several rewards for only $25 a year. The voucher for the free daylily makes it monetarily worthwhile. The four yearly issues of The Daylily Journal make it worthwhile for me. The DJ is full of colorful pictures and great articles.

I use the website alot and love the Journal you will get 4 times a year. There is a ton of more good stuff if you live close to a local chapter. My closest one is 50 miles away, so i don't go. But I still love all the other benefits. Blessings, Mona

You can also try a trial membership for $15.00 and get two issues of the Journal and access to the Portal. I'm on the internet a lot myself but must agree that sometimes it's just nice to be able to sit back and look through a catalog or the Journal and dream nodding . They have been great references to me in the past.
Life is short, enjoy the ride!

Well worth it...the quarterly journals are worth more than the $25. I've not received any catalogs in the mail as a result of being a member though.

Thanks so much for all your input. Sounds like it might be a good deal. Something that Santa might bring me for Christmas.....I know everyone is trying to go paperless, and I understand their reasoning. I don't like it, but then there's alot of cost cutting innovations that I don't care for. I still remember calling a company and a real live person answered the phone. Getting old I guess...Maryl
