I'm so excited. DA Evelyn finally opened an eye for me. Two of the other plants "bloomed" but they were still stressed from being put in the ground so were not happy blooms. I'm getting more buds, and Evelyn is beautiful.

That's a most beautiful happy bloom. I've had mostly unhappy ones myself so far. Too much rain. Now that the weather has cleared up, I'm expecting many happy roses. Yours gives me great hopes.

Zuzu - if you get tired of the rain, send it my way. We're having the driest year like ever. It's precipitated less than the equivalent of like 1" the entire YEAR and we should have gotten at least the equivalent of like 6-8" (snow melt is like 8" of snow = 1" of rain and we didn't get hardly ANY snow what-so-ever. In the mountains, however, they're measuring it in the feet.).

Carey - Is that gorgeousness as smelly as it is beautiful? If so, I may have to break down & find it somewhere... Rolling my eyes. Whistling Whistling

Thanks Toni! As a matter of fact, Ms Evelyn is as smelly as they come. Divine old rose! Not sure I smell the peach undertone as advertised, but then my nose isn't as sensitive as others. :)

Zuzu, we could use some of that rain around here too. The wildfires are starting to get really bad in TX and it feels like the Santa Anas around here lately.

And Thank you Steve! Ya'll have been a great help with layouts and care. Three of my others have some buds so I hope I'll have some more to share soon!

That Bayer systemic is the cat's meow. Now I just need to get some of that other stuff ya'll talk about and I'll have it all on my care shelf.

We've gotten torrents of rain this past week, but it's all good given the fact that my roses are only just starting to sprout their first bud eyes and leaves. It will be another 5 weeks before I see any blooms. Can't wait!

Evelyn is one of my favorites. I got it for my mom about 6 years ago. The smell is so good. I have to prune that thing every year for her. It gets huge! My dad complains about it sticking him when he cuts the yard. LOL.

lol! Evelyn is the 'pokiest' of the roses I have so far. She has been growing leaps and bounds already. I should have some "Love" blooms soon too, and once my Caldwell Pink starts, it'll be a show, because almost all the growth tips has a bud! Found a couple of buds on 'Spice' too. Now if I could just get Belinda's Dream to bloom again. Her blooms don't last long...

wow.. everyone has blooms.. I barely have any leaves!!

Carey - If you want pokey thorns, try George Burns. I'm going to have to get another one... mine died last year and I decided that, yes, the thorns are well worth the beauty.

Toni - oohhh! That's an awful pretty floribunda. That would be a good addition to put in front of DA Benjamin Britten. Now I just have to find him. :)

lol Porkpal! The only retarded ones are the hairy dogs that keep running through the canes!

Carey - Actually, as evil as GB is (see this thread: http://cubits.org/roses/thread...) just have your dogs run back & forth through the canes and it should deshed them. LOL!!!

GB is pretty common to find. Should be able to find him like almost at a Home Depot/Lowes... also any LGS should carry him. If you have problems, I can pick one up locally & ship it to you.

WOW Toni! That's a lot of prickers! I guess the dogs would be deshed quickly with those! lol!!!

We've pretty much run through the rose parades here already. They start arriving early March around here since spring is so early for us. I'll keep my eyes open at the area nurseries as they get stuff in that's different every few weeks. I'm close enough to a dozen or so major rose nurseries that I can always explore. Thanks tho! Smiling

Thanks Sue! She still has a few more blooms lined up for me to catch a whiff on a daily basis, and for a rather small bush (she's still a baby) she's been extremely rewarding with the buds and blooms. Smiling
