We've had a red fox (or foxes???) since we moved in in March of 2013. I can't tell you how many times we've seen it during the broad daylight. I've seen it once at night & we've seen it several times in the pre dawn or dusk but by far, the day time wins out.

I saw a fox once, and was impressed by how graceful it seemed. If a dog was like a linebacker, this was like a ballerina.

A friend and I were out hiking at night, in the middle of a large open field. We saw the fox flitting from tree to tree just behind the treeline around the open field. We were impressed and turned to follow it and it saw our interest, so it disappeared.

We kept peering and pointing and walking that way, hoping to catch another glimpse. I don't know if it was curious or just showing off who knew their way around in the woods, and who were stumbling dummies, but the fox circled all the way around the field and snuck up behind us, getting 1/2 way across the bare and totally exposed field while we stared in the opposite direction "hoping to catch a glimpse".

It disappeared again in about as much time as it took us to turn the rest of the way around.

It must have been thinking "Tag! You're IT!" as it whirled away.

Hilarious! Hilarious! Hilarious!

Why do you think there are so many sayings referring to foxes? Crazy like a fox. Sly as a fox.

I was walking in the woods once & came upon a red fox kit. We surprised each other! I was only about 6' from it when we noticed each other. We both froze & we both stared. We must have stood there for 10 full seconds before it took off & I decided to continue on. It was one of those "moments" in life.

We've seen red foxes once in a great while here. Years ago, I used to put out a peanut butter and jam sandwich once in a while for the critters to eat and one or two times a red fox came out, snatch up the sandwich and took off, then come back and do the same thing again (in the same night).

The red foxes look like little doggies. So cute.

We live next to a 13 acre lot next to us (mixed meadow and trees) and from what I'm told, there's two more lots next to that (around the same size), so we get all kinds of four legged and two legged (wild turkeys and birds) "critters" here. I've been feeding the birds (and bunnies) every day (every year), since Dec. 2000. I've feeders and scatter mixed seed on the ground. Also have Hummingbird feeders every year.
Welcome to the Agastache and Salvias Forum!

Hummingbirds are beautiful flying jewels in the garden!

Domesticated foxes apparently make good pets. In Russia they have been domesticated for a long time. I want one.

It is a bit of a surprise today when another goanna came through the garden. This one is not as big. I am not happy with such large predators coming through with all the baby birds around. In eight years I had seen only two goannas here. Now I have seen two in a week. I think it is the clearing for new houses that is happening nearby. Well, I won't stop them from being here. (If only they would eat the ibis).
These are Lace Monitors Varanus varius. The Australian name, goanna, is not used by scientists - more their loss.

Glen ...

I don't think I would enjoy sharing a garden with one of those. Of course, I'd never let myself get close enough to do anything about it, either.

Our vet told us that fox if they have little ones will come out to look for food in the daylight..

I was glad to hear that...so I knew that the healthy one we saw was most likely
looking for food at the bird feeding area

You have a gray fox, it isnt a red fox.. i looked at it.

I would be very very careful about feeding wildlife bigger then birds or squirrels even squrrels pose issues if you encourage them., doing that with carnivores like foxes, coyotes, wolves, useally leads to the poor animal being killed by people or worse harming somebuddys pet or child after they loose fear of people. and be safe as it could be rabid. If It staggers, acts weird or drolls you will need to take other measures. call animal control, ect. its not something i like to post but you have a duty to help those in your community if an animal is at large that could be rabid. if its just hanging around though just leave it be.

Here in TX, no one will come out and get a potentially rabid animal. We had a skunk that was staggering around during the day and called the sheriff, vet, animal control, and fish and game. The advice we were given was:
1. sneak up behind it and put an garbage can over it. (honest!)
2. shoot it, but not in the head so we can test it
3. put it in your fridge and we will come out to get it.

It did NOT go in my fridge, but we buried it deeper than most animals can dig when they never called or came to get it.
