Your mission, should you decide to accept it, is to locate 1-2 Apricot Sunblaze roses. I have contacted the usual suspects but have failed to locate the elusive AS. There are many in the Sunblaze series, but I have not been able to find Apricot. So, put on your garden detective hat and help me locate this beauty. Thanks.

This tape will self-destruct in 6...5...4...3...2...boom!

Nery, Apricot Sunblaze appears to be rather elusive. Would any of these other Sunblaze roses do?

John's is a division of Heirloom, but it doesn't seem to suffer from the parent nursery's faults. I've always had good luck with the roses from John's.

Just a warning about Johns... 2 of mine didn't make the winter because they were teeny little sprouts. Sad Lost Herbie & Rosy Dawn. Sad

Oh, that's too bad, Toni.

The Sunblaze roses are sold in a bigger size for more money at a lot of nurseries, such as Regan's, but I think all of them have stopped sending bare-root roses through the mail by now.

Hey Nery,

You might try Growquest at: http://www.growquest.com/rose%...

Even if they're not shipping now, you might use them as a source later.

You could also try emailing or calling Weston Gardens in Texas to see if it's currently available - it's listed at http://www.westongardens.com/p...

Mike, please don't recommend Growquest to anyone. The guy's a scam artist and has been prosecuted more than once for mail fraud. Check out the Garden Watchdog ratings: 228 negative reviews and some evidence of hanky panky with the positive reviews (written mainly by friends and employees).

http://davesgarden.com/product...

The recommendation of Weston Gardens, however, is highly intriguing. Nery, are you anywhere near Fort Worth? Weston Gardens sounds like a great place to shop. A great selection of roses and four acres of demonstration gardens!

My mom still is insisting on ordering from Michigan Bulb even though she hasn't ordered from them in about .. uh... '89.. 22? years! I keep telling her that they've been sold to a bunch of scamartists (Wayside Gardens Thumbs down Thumbs down Thumbs down ) but I guess she's going to have to learn the hard way.

I'll keep my eyeballs open at my LGS to see if I can find it. Looks awfully pretty! Smiling

Mike - Garden WatchDog has some disparaging words about B&B as well. *sigh* Are there ANY good mail-order bulb providers any more? Sad http://davesgarden.com/product...

I know of a great mail-order bulb provider, Toni. I've never bought a bad bulb from Bert Bleek. He has a cubit here and puts on great co-ops and, as a matter of fact, he's a member of our rose cubit too.

This is his cubit:

Hi everybody and thanks for helping. My comments:

The one hybridized by Saville, 1982 would be my first choice. However, I notice the one hybridized by Meilland in 1994 used seed from the original one. So, either one would be fine. The Saville one is aka Mark One and since hubby's name is Mark, I would love to have it in my garden.

I contacted John's Miniatures and they didn't have it. They were nice to suggest another nursery (can't remember name, also in CA) but they didn't have it either.

As to Weston Gardens, yes, I have been there. It is lovely. It is/was a private residence with large gardens. I went there when the Houston Rose Rustlers held a gathering a couple of years ago. I think the family owns the property across the street from the residence and they have opened a "regular" nursery. It has nice popular plants, but I wouldn't say they focus on old, or hard to find, kind of plants. For the non-texans, Ft Worth is closer to Dallas than to Richmond (Houston). If you do some gallivanting in this area, please stop there. It is very beautiful and peaceful, as gardens should be.

As to B&B, I still consider them in the top 5 reliable sellers. Living in TX, I never forget that they are far away from me and plants may not behave in my area as they describe. Stated otherwise, I take their descriptions with a grain of salt. Same thing w/ Logee's Gardens in Conecticut. They specialize in tropicals but every one that I've gotten from them has petered out in my texas heat. I don't think either one is a bad nursery, it's a geography thing.

I did get some bulbs from Bert.. I recognized the eflowergarden. I doubt anyone will blossom this year, but I think almost everyone is going to grow except for the muscari.

Voss - Maybe Burlington Roses can get one?

Bert's website says they have changed their catalog process and have changed to co-op ordering only. Anyone have experience with the new process?

I did the co-op w/Bert last year. Very very nice folks.. I ended up calling them up because I was confused on how to do it (my second co-op ever). Really nice folks. They sent me very nicely packed bulbs that were GORGEOUS.. no wilted/scrawny/dried out. I ordered:

Number Item # Type Size Amount/ea Total
6 750427 Narc Professor Einstein 14/16 cm 0.90 5.40T
6 750502 Narc Sempre Avanti 14/16 cm 0.60 3.60T
20 75500 Muscari Armeniacum 9/10 cm 0.15 3.00T

I have lots of stuff coming up, but what I have, I have no idea! I didn't mark, so whatever comes up will be a surprise!

Narcissus Professor Einstein http://pics.davesgarden.com/pi...
Narcissus Sempre Avanti http://pigeonhaspants.com/word...
Muscari Armeniacum http://courses.nres.uiuc.edu/h...

My total order for all 32 bulbs (and he even threw in a bulb planter thingie http://www.plantmenow.co.uk/me...) came out to be $23, including shipping & Paypal costs.

I always bought stuff from eflowergarden because the prices were so reasonable, but they're even lower now that the co-op procedure is in place. The co-ops are positively effortless. The Website threw me a few curves at first, refusing to record my purchases properly, but Bert is such a good guy and he's always ready and willing to do these transactions over the telephone or by e-mail instead.

I've bought mainly lilies and glads from him. Premium bulbs at super-low prices.
