I apologize because I have to take something back that I mentioned earlier and I feel just awful. I don't know what I was thinking. After looking at all my pictures over the last few years, my late bloomers start blooming sometime during the first week of July, not August. August is just about the time that most daylilies are winding down for me, but I wish I had some that were just beginning then!

Debra, I like pictures that are posted too, but ran out of time earlier. So here are a few earlies and lates just for you!

Three "early bloomers":
Hawaiian Gold - FFO 5/31/10

Whooperee - FFO 6/6/09 and a clump picture from 6/7/10. Whooperee will always have a home with me!

Thank you, Vickie! Those photos are wonderful. Cloudy here, so just the right spot of cheery color today. Lovey dubby

I have several day lily plants that were given to me as a gift when my brother died. I am not an accomplished gardener but I treasure these plants and have watered them carefully. I have even checked the best place for sun and for fertilizing. When should I expect them to bloom?

Welcome! aerie73
When your plants will bloom will depend on your location, and the cultivar of the plants. Not all daylilies bloom at the same time. There are very early, early, early Mid., Mid season, Mid late, Late, very late (did I miss any). All those will vary according to your specific location. Here in my zone 8b garden I start having blooms in late March normally. So you need to find out at least what zone you are in, that should get you in the ball park for bloom times in your area.

Welcome!

I agree with Larry. He is in Alabama and I am in Georgia. I was just mentioning on another thread that he has far more blooms than I do. I have had only two plants to bloom this season. Normally peak season for me is sometimes in June. I have had them to bloom/rebloom as late as October and November...but that is rare. I'm sure the amount of rain/water is a factor as well. We got a good rain all day yesterday and that generally means more scapes within a few days.

Welcome, aerie!
Welcome! Welcome!

My first blooms of the year opened today. I'm in 8A, too, but Pat's area gets more rain than mine does, which makes a difference when it comes to scapes and rebloom. Like Larry and Pat said, what you get and when depends on where you are. Smiling

chalyse said:Thanks, Juli! I'm still so new that I'm not really sure what "peak bloom" means *Blush* Is that when "mid-season" blooms are blooming? Or does it mean something else ... like "when most varieties bloom" and may generally include EM-M cultivars as well as EE and E rebloomers?

I did find a nice chart for Zone 5, but that doesn't help me much in Zone 8 ... perhaps it is a starting point, though:

Interesting, I live a few miles from Bloomingfields and I believe since they did this bloom breakout our zone has been changed to 5B, although, I am now literally on the edge of 6B.

I am going to watch my bloomdates this year and see how my daylilies fall into these breakdowns.

In addition to growing zones, which affect bloom dates, there are also micro-climates within our growing region that can totally affect bloom dates.

My zone 7b daylilies were blooming in 2017-19 as follows:
Thumb of 2019-07-20/Jean1956/3456c5
Stella D'Oro May 11 proximity to sun not optimal in this location in yard.
Thumb of 2019-07-20/Jean1956/b77688
Kindly Light? I confuse Lady Fingers (Mid) which begins about June 7, and Kindly Light (Mid) which begins First week of June. Both of these daylilies can be delayed if proximity to sun reduced. I confuse them when the amount of curl in petal varies in Kindly Light, move them around a lot, not meticulous about labeling.

Persian Market was a purchase from Oakes Daylily last fall. It began blooming around 2nd week of June and still has a few blooms July 20th.

Thought I'd ordered Primal Scream, but not so sure whether it's what I received. Whatever this is, it screams its color loudly enough to suit me. Starts to bloom half way through June.

Prairie Moonlight, extended bloom, have to move forward in bed to increase sun exposure. Bloomed at beginning of 2nd week of June.

Nice pictures with the other plants giving a colorful backdrop to the daylilies.

I think you are right. I don't think that is Primal Scream. It has some nice branching though.

So I have been keeping records for 3 bloom seasons now, and for the most part, my bloom times are right on target with Bloomingfields chart. Last year many of my earlies were extra early and then everything else was right on target. This year my earlies were not early and started right about the time of my early mid but my mid seasons are right on target.
