Hello, virginiarose and all those on this forum.
I am absolutely thrilled to have the opportunity to share this forum with all of you.
My dear Oma (gramma) raised a number of Hosta plants and I grew up watching them grow from small plants to later large plants.
The plants were in full sun all the time, when there was sunshine of course. I have no idea what kind they were. I did not even know what they were called. If she ever told me, it did not stick.
As kids and ("hanging head") adults, we liked to pinch the "bulbs" to hear them pop. The flower then did not open but gramma did not care. She was happy that we enjoyed the "pop." The flower was a very soft orchid color. When gramma wanted some new plants out front of her house, she gave me those hosta plants. I believe there were a dozen or so. It took me hours to make a bed for them And at my house they had full sun as well.
A few years later when we moved, I lost those plants. What I would not give to have just one of those now. I found out later that the new owners distroyed them.
DD bought me a couple of plants that were similar to what gramma had but not the exact cultivar.
I've spent a good deal of time (eyes now very tired) looking at different pics of those posted here. How beautiful.
It will be fun to learn about the hostas and MAYBE, just maybe I will come to find one like gramma's.
Thank you all so much for the enjoyment. I know it takes time to come on line, post and download pictures. It is appreciated by so many.
Have a wonderful evening! Oma
I thank my God upon every remembrance of you.

Yes, I can share some also if you ID the plant you lost. I have maybe 40 or so varieties. My grandmother made a big impact on me wanting to garden also. Welcome to ATPs. I will see you on the dl forum too. :)

Hi Teresa, I really do not know what plant she had. I want to look for pictures that were taken when she was still living in her home. I do not know if I can enlarge the picture (not digital) after a scan and see it clear enough to be able for you to identify. I do know that she had those plants for a lot of years so it would be nothing new, that is certain.
I know that the little flowers were a very soft orchid color and it was so pretty when they were in bloom. Thinking of those plants bring me to miss Oma so much more today.
You might think I am crazy saying this but I will pray I find the plant if I am to have it.
I will be happy to see your plants. You probably have many posted here. When I have more time, I will have to check that out.
Have a great weekend! Oma
I thank my God upon every remembrance of you.

Virginiarose, I did it! I did it!!!
I found the oldest daylily cultivar I own that is in our garden. When I saw you all posting a flower on your profile page, I wanted to put one there, too. Just like a new kid on the block, LOL! Anyway, I have pics of many daylilies that DD took in our garden in earlier years, before I got breast cancer. Sigh!
This daylily on my profile page is named DOWAGER QUEEN 1975 Barrere. That is the information that I found in the data base but there was no picture. I now forget if it was here or on DG. But I think it was here I looked and saw it listed but no photo. If mine is good enough, I would be willing to share it but I do not know how to do that or if I should.
Thanks to all of you, my new found friends, I am having fun!

Virginiarose,
I did exactly what you told me and it worked! I am so excited. Doesn't take much to excite me does it, LOL! Hilarious!
Well, at least while I was doing that little project, I wasn't crying over my washer break down!!! Sad
My male cat, Marmelade is begging for a treat so I will quit this chat for now before he starts crying Crying (Yes, I do know how to spell the American jam word but I have chosen to use the German spelling of Marmelade).
I will be on a search for any daylily pictures I have that are not in the database.

Glad your upload was successful, please do add any daylily pictures because you can earn acorns and buy more tickets. Hurray!

I am glad to be here, too. Thank you for the nice welcome.
The Fall time of the year and the Winter months are especially difficult for me. I am basically
home bound and so being able to have some house plants and learn about new ones is
helpful to my well being.
Thanks to a very sweet lady on DG, I was encouraged to join this site.
My Oma had some Hosta plants and so I grew up seeing hers and enjoyed them She later gave her plants to me. I lost them when we moved to another state.
Hopefully, someday I will find the kind of Hosta she raised but if not, I will enjoy something similar.
I know I have lots to learn about Hostas, Orchid's and many others that you all talk about.
Learning new things keeps the brain cells working! I am all for that!!!
Thanks again, daylilyOma2 Smiling
I thank my God upon every remembrance of you.

Thank you, Christine, (like your name by the way)
for the BIG welcome. I am sure we will chat again
before long. There are so many places to post
here that I sometimes get lost!
I am having such a good time making new friends
and learning more about the plants I enjoy but
haven't had the time and energy to learn more
about them. ATP is a wonderful place and I am
glad another new friend introduced me to it.
Have a GREAT Wednesday.

Not long after DaylilyOma2 became a member of ATP and made a bunch of new friends, she became seriously ill and has been hospitalized much of the winter. I heard from her today and though she is far from well, she's doing much better. This is what she asked me to do:

Sharon, I do not have the energy to contact my friends
Would you put a little notice to friends of Oma so they know
that I am still here...just too weak to keep up with life yet.
I know you will know just what to say.
Thanks,
Oma

She has limited access to the internet, but I wanted to share with you what she said. I'm sure she'll be back as soon as she's able. Thanks for your good wishes for her.
