Sorry, didn't mean to make you cry.

But all this talk about daylilies just brought that memory to the front of my mind. And I can see her clear as day when she handed the brown paper bag to me. She had on her best blue flowered dress with a lighter blue apron over it. She always wore an apron. Her white hair frizzed around her face in the heat of August, but the back was coiled in a braid and circled the center back of her head. And she grinned when she said, 'Don't you ever forget your roots.'

Then handed me that very thing, a bag of roots.
A sort of secret double talk between her and me.

As you know, I think it is important to know and remember our "roots." It is great you have such a tangible reminder.
