I know you got some...

Summer flowers are generally the stars in gardens . However, variegated foliage and colors of foliage in golden yellows, purple, red, orange foliage of trees, shrubs, and vines can also be the star in summer gardens .

A few from my garden...

Thank you Gina 1960..

Not only tropicals have interesting foliage. I love tropical plants. Here out in the garden I have just lost a few windmill palms due to freak ice storms . I have a few tropical plants I baby inside all year. Can put them out on the patios in July thru sept.
So I look at tropical plants and Drooling on the forum. Your collection is fabulous.

that is sweet of you to say. I am very short on things like zinnias....I bought 5 packs of seeds this spring and NONE of them came up. I was so disappointed.

gardenfish... wow beautiful foliage I tip my hat to you. all beautiful garden favorites. Just spotted your post. Happy to see so many. Isn't it funny once we look for multi colored foliage we find more than we thought.

I was surprised how many were in my garden and still have a boat load left .

I miss having some of those annuals... so beautiful . They grow so fast and coleus and many others have so many multi colored foliage varieties. I think it helps break up all the green and , "Screams look at me! Definitely gives the garden a focal point .

I always do my zinnias outside. Never had any luck doing them inside. The one in the pic was one I bought. Actually, the first one ever that I've bought! I just fell in love with the color. Lovey dubby Lovey dubby Lovey dubby

well I did them out in the garden in March. We were already in the 80's and some 90's in March so it was certainly not cold that caused germination failure

Nope, it wasn't. Gina, they sprout and grow so fast, you could try again, I think you have plenty of time. Smiling I do sow them thick, so I may not be getting all the varieties I plant to germinate. I'll have to wait and see when they start blooming. I think I planted 12 varieties this year. I really need to be more methodical about it, like writing down which ones I plant and putting tags in the garden where I planted them. Well, there's next year to do that! I planted a lot of marigolds, tithonia, cosmos and cornflowers at the same time. At least I can recognize those seedlings! I did plant the tithonia in the middle of the bed because they will be the tallest.

I was surprised to see the variegated leaves pop up in the Japanese MG seedlings, but Joseph on the ipomoea forum assures me that several varieties have them.
