Does anybody grow any so called hose in or on hose double brugmansias? Oh I see Joy does. Big Grin Just happen to be pics of one just added to the database. How do you get the flowers to open properly???? I've had mine outside all summer and kept it watered through the drought and it had lots of flowers but not one opened properly! They all just sort of stuck together and turned brown after a few days. The outer petals wouldn't let the inner ones out.I'd post a picture but I don't have one and my plant is now safely stored away for the winter. Any thoughts?

Doubles are often finicky. You get dropped buds, deformed flowers and such.I also see more caterpillar damage on my doubles and that seems strange. We get better results here when the weather cools down a little more.Yours should be cool enough now for some good blooms.

It's been cool here for over a month with no improvement. I had to bring it in last week as we had an early heavy frost that did in the other plants I didn't get in. I think I'll get a single next year and send this one to the great garden in the sky. It's 3 years old and hasn't had any normal blooms.

I prefer the singles for their simplicity of form but I am in the minority.

Actually I'm with you. I didn't realize this was a double till after I got it home or I wouldn't have bought it.
