Well Arlyn -- I wondered why you didn't respond to my comment! Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing

I am a tad too young for *only the Shadow knows* -- or else it just wasn't played in our home. I'm 67. We did listen to the radio, but mostly it was for music. I remember our first television set -- in the 50's. There wasn't too much to watch on it -- I do remember watching Kukla, Fran and Ollie. And I remember a program with a character called Cinnamon Bear -- that was my brother's and my favorite. And later, the Mickey Mouse Club. And America Bandstand.

Ahhhhhhh -- the good ole days. Lovey dubby

AmericaN Bandstand -- sorry.

Oh -- and there was a Disney program on Sunday nights, and every week there would be a different *world* -- Fantasy World, and Adventure World -- a couple more. Also there was Davy Crockett -- "son of the wild frontier" -- remember? Oh -- and Flash Gordon!!! I remember the Lawrence Welk Show -- and those lovely girls who were sisters, who sang. Beautifully.

Oh my goodness -- what a trip down Memory Lane.

aryln it is a systemic and I have high hopes for it I bought another additive a sticker that is supposed to make it more effective,so with regular sprays in the spring hopefully I can have the foliage looking good again. The triple 20 I think is a different product with a different ingredient I have heard it used to treat bulb rot but I am not sure if it is effective for leaf spot. I had to use the spray for the leaf hoppers it was the only one that killed them within minutes of contact nothing else worked very well.

We have a black compost box.It doesnt produce enough to do the whole garden but I use it when putting in any new plants.
I will add it to iris in spring.
I am the one who is helped by the advise.New to iris and in comparison to everyone here I dont have huge beds, just clumps to round out compositions of other areas in the garden.

We always had a compost pile at the old place("cold" compost) and will no doubt have one here, also. Between grass clippings, kicthen scraps, garden waste, and the dead plants at years end, we could"steal" about 6 wheelbarrel loads a year from it. I never put iris leaves, dayliliy leaves, or any "deadheads" in it,as it didn't "work" hot enough to kill seeds or organisms. I try to watch for year end "clearence sales" at the box stores for the left-over bags of composted manure.( usually get it for .50 a bag, normaly its 1.50-2.00).I just bought a full pallet of manure at K-mart (85 , 40lb. bags for$ 12.00) My motto is "If you gotta' PAY for poop, at least get it cheap!.. Since we get a ton of rain each year and I overhead water it is hard not to have leaf spot in the garden with the 3 acres but this also allows me to see which ones are prone to a lot or a little and not for hybridizers I do use Cleary and it does help but in Oregon I do not it possible to have no leaf spot and how I wish it was

But in turn we do not have to worry about borers so I guess it is a trade off.

Glad to here you did not loose them Lucy! Our town picks up but they charge us 28.00 per yard to buy it back and it is cheaper where I buy my sand and compost than the city! Go figure.

One of our big complains here in our small down,. We take our trash to the dump which is about 2 miles away EXCEPT they guess and the last time we were there to dump they wanted to charge us 84.00 so we drove over to the town near us about 15 miles away with the same trash and it was weighted came to cost us 27.00 for the same load. Now we only go there. Locally we do the recycling as it is FREE. Compost is 28.00 per yard and it is very weedy and will never buy again

I think the cost of the dump is costing our little town more trash on the roads than before. Shame they do not see it or understand.

We are in a far suburb that used to be a small town. Trash collection is a private company.
Leaves and yard debris is collected by the town and the cost is included with our taxes. The town keeps the leaf collection in a different place and they compost it ( let it sit a year ) I do believe its weedy but it only costs us for the delivery. $50.00 for a five yard cartfull.
I can understand why a business wouldnt want it,too many acres to weed.

New regulations are recycling & organics picked up every week & trash every 2 weeks. Handy for us as we get a lot to recycle, especially catalogs.

Brad

What was the "additive" you bought for the Cleary product? I assume this was something to make it stick to the waxy iris leaves as normal sprays seem to fall off. Are you using a tank sprayer? If so, what size? Mixture would be 50/50 (water/cleary plus the additive)?

I have had a severe leaf spot issue in the Spring and it showed back up two weeks ago. Not much I can do now, but want to be ready to go in the Spring. Thanks.

Greg It is a sticker called Surfactcant it is supposed to increase the effectiveness of it and if I remember right it was 1/2 teaspoon for a gallon sprayer which is what I use, I will probably switch to a back pack sprayer in the spring because they will hold so much more but for now the gallon sprayer will get it done.I wanted to get started on spraying mine a little early, I know there is nothing I can do about the plants that have it but my thinking was to get it on the new growth and all the new plants that have know signs of it yet and hope I can get rid of it next year. I thought it was impossible to not have it in some form but both Napa Gardens and Superstition did not have a trace of it on anything and both of those guys follow a spray program so I am going to give it a shot and see what happens next year.

Here is the link for what I bought

Sprayer I liked this one it has good pressure and didn't clog on me like the cheap round up ones

It's funny how some years there's no issues with leaf spot, and other years it seems to be everywhere. I don't think it really hurts anything, but it's not nice to look at.

The Hurricane is supposed to leave us with really cold temps for the next 3 days.
We are too far north for the snow.
