Bulbs are starting to bloom here in California. This narcissus is earlier than normal this year.

Is that what is also called Acidantera? I used to grow them, but I had a lot of thrip problems with them and had to pull them all out.

Yours look lovely. They do add a nice color to the garden this time of the year.

Nerines have been blooming for the past few weeks. One of my favorite fall blooming bulbs. I wish they would multiply for me. I have this lighter pink and a darker pink.

Dianne,

These are also called:

Synonym:Acidanthera bicolor
Synonym:Acidanthera murielae

I see some of the white narcissus poking up their heads, too.

If they bloomed properly for me, I would have kept them. The thrips caused all of the flowers of my acidanthera to be deformed. Looks like they do very well for you, Betsy.

I think Nerines are an under-appreciated species of bulbs. They make great cut flowers.

I have not seen that species here. Is it pretty hardy?

Tarev - I have the same problem with the acidanteras - lots of leaves, few to no blooms. Because of that and the thrips, I have been trying to get rid of them for years. They multiply like crazy and big patches still come up year after year.

J - nice bessera. Haven't seen those locally either.
