In recent years many, many new echinacea hybrids have hit the market. They're available in beautiful shades of reds, pink, orange and yellows. Most of them are vegetatively propagated. Seeds saved from them might or might not produce like plants.
There are also a few that have come to market which are propagated from seed. These include ones like Pow Wow, Paridisio, and Cheyenne Spirit. Since they're seed propagated, they should produce like plants.
Be aware that there are vendors out there selling seeds for some echinacea that are vegetatively propagated. Before you spend money on them, it's worth a few minutes of research to find if the ones you're purchasing actually are grown from seed, or tissue culture. Trying your own harvested seeds or traded ones is one thing, but for me, spending money on them is something else.
It helps to shop from reputable seed companies too, and of course, research the company beforehand.
Just thought I'd throw this out there before everyone is wildly seed shopping.
