No dubt that you'll have many great lilies this year.
The first year we traded lily seeds you send me some seeds from Orienpets[Medusa/Anaconda/Black Dragon varied crosses or was it BLACK DRAGON x MEDUSA. So far one of them have bloomed for me, it was pure white, like Black Dragon. But there might be some more bulbs that still have not bloomed yet.

With apologies from a probable stranger for nervously pouncing your thread, perhaps this is a good place to say a first hello. I'm also in Tasmania, in midst of rising lily stem fever, hoping to see buds clear foliage soon... but found this forum only a few weeks ago. Thanks for sharing your pics - they remind me just how many lilies can be fitted into a small garden space when determination is high. I'm inspired to redouble my own efforts now and reclaim more concrete from the monkey-kids for little spear babies instead.

When you mention lily show, do you mean the event at Claremont (if it's still out there... it's been years since I went), or one of the northwest events (Burnie or Devonport)? The prospect of seeing lilies again is intoxicating.

Thankyou all Smiling

I'll watch, listen and share as possible. Though I don't have nearly the numbers or range of liliums that gwhizz seems to here. The x dalhansonii is especially splendid; whorled foliage just gorgeous.

oh, goodo. I've never benched anything at Claremont - being a bit of a hermit and missing the local info. I was raised in the northwest lilium society, and periodically made pilgrimages back there to shows. Aside from knowing some of the local names and being an intermittent Glenbrook (surely there are fewer reputations or personalities or contributions to garden treasures larger than Rod Barwick?) and Harvey customer, I've 'lilied' here in relative isolation.

But Rod Barwick is famous for flowering gloriosoides (as well as the Claremont show and 'Trumpeter') ... are you related?

(Egads... hope I have not created offence in any of my ignorance >>)

This year I think I'll make an effort to see Claremont. If I have any stems left (most my lilies are early, I seldom have anything in January), maybe I'll even participate. If you need a rusty but qualified extra judge, or are happy to have someone potter about observing, helping and learning from your show processes, I'm around Smiling What is the local participation like?
