For anyone interested in macro photography (the taking of close-up photos in the garden), look for my article in the Winter issue of the AHS Journal. Here's a sample photo from the lead page...a carpenter bee gathering pollen from a daylily.

Wow, John great picture. I opened it up and that bee is a happy mess! Do you have a special camera? I just have a point-n-shoot, easyshare. I can blow them up on the computer and do some editing. Check out the Lady Bug on my Rose of Sharon. Thumb of 2012-11-05/virginiarose/694b9f

That bee picture is amazing! I love macro photography, but have done much lately.

Here is a damsel fly picture that I took in 2006 that I zoomed in on. Not sure if that would be considered macro. I wish I hadn't cut off his lower wing.

The damsel fly is amazing, my eye was drawn to his face the wings are irrelevant, maybe because they are clear. I just love it!

Sarah, that is a beauty of a daylily. I feel like I could just dip into some of that pollen!

Laura, the muscadet lily looks like it has tentacles and wants to grab that bee:)

Susan, point and shoots work too! That is a very nice picture of the ladybug.

Sarah, I have a few, but I think the crispness of yours is better. For macros I would probably have better luck if I picked the bloom, took it in the house for the picture. I also don't use a tripod, which would absolutely make a difference too.

Really like those pictures you posted. That last one (a tiger lily I believe?) is gorgeous!

On second glance maybe it isn't a tiger lily. I didn't see the pink edges before. What is it?
