the roses i got were tiny and midge infested. they sent new ones. that were better. the minis are ok. id order again but only if i couldnt find the rose anywhere else. the customer service was pretty good. their catalog has highly enhanced photos. so does the website

The roses I got from Heirloom were not in bad shape, but one croaked. When I called them up, they stated that it was due to the fact that I transplanted the ittybitty band into a 1gal container w/MiracleGro potting soil.. they said that it burned the roots. Sad That was on "Fisherman's Friend"... I may see if any my LGS carry this rose as I *really* want one! The other 3 are in the garage right now in dormancy.. at least, I *hope* it's dormancy!!

If Hortico hadn't jerked me around so much, this would be my least favorite nursery.

I ordered two roses from them 4 years ago. Kaleidoscope is still only about 8 inches tall and Gloire de Dijon stayed small for a couple of years and then started growing and blooming. Unfortunately, the blooms bore no resemblance to Gloire de Dijon. I'm not sure whether it was mislabeled or they simply don't know their roses and weren't aware they were selling the wrong thing. At any rate, that was a 50% error rate, so it's no wonder Jeri Jennings calls it "Err-loom Nursery."

Heirloom is not on my ordering list either. I ordered from them a couple of years ago when I couldn't get what I wanted anywhere else, but never again. Spindly and unimpressive best describe my experience with them.

I treat Heirloom as a supplier of last resort, and have not bought from them for more than a decade. Although some of the roses that did best for me in NJ came from Heirloom - Sea Foam and Fred Loads - my batting average with their roses was about 14%. Seven of eight died in the first year. Almost all of them were tiny, spindly, barely-rooted cuttings which don't stand a chance in the garden. So the only logical thing to do is pot them. In the garden they get nibbled to death; but in pots the potting soil is said to burn their fragile, undeveloped roots. Either way they die and you pay for a rose you don't have. And Heirloom will not replace it.

All my Heirloom roses did not survive being overwintered in the garage. They will not be on my list to order from.. for the price, you can get big monsters from other companies, but you have to order early in order to get the roses you want!

Steph - That's awesome that yours came in great & are growing good for you! Probably because you're in Eden for roses. I envy you.

You can only envy me until it time to dead head and trim. Oh my gosh i am still finding littling thorns undermy skin. The austins just get so big here. I wish they would bloom as much as they grow. Greens pick up every other week I had 9 garbage bins full.

Man I wonder what some of you other girls like zuzu do with hundreds of roses.
