Decided to look at Palatine site. First page says "YOUR BROWSER IS NOT SUPPORTED BY THIS SITE. PLEASE UPGRADE TO A MODERN BROWSER."

My browser is four years old and one of the most standard-compliant of its day. "FIne," I think. "Safari is listed." So I click on Safari. But it is version 5. And version 5 requires Snow Leopard. And Snow Leopard requires an Intel processor. And that's not what I have in my Mac. Therefore, if I want to buy roses from Palatine, I need to spend $1700 - $3500 on a new computer.

HA!

Actually, it seems like the display functions of the site work ok. Maybe I can get by without a new computer. But, if so, why the effort to try and scare me away? Sometimes the choices suppliers make puzzle me.

They have some old classics that I have been meaning to put in my garden for a long time (Liebeszauber, Dolly Parton, Alpine Sunset, Perfect Moment, Valencia, and Ivory Tower, Mme Hardy). I keep clicking on the Fairy Tale roses that look good to me, only to find they don't have much scent. Maybe that shouldn't stop me, though.

Steve - Do you have a cell phone? Their website supports most cell phones.. I've actually browsed them on my iPhone and Palm Centro. Also, I believe you can download Google Chrome for the Mac, I know we were using it on Leopard before we upgraded to Snow Leopard and it worked fine there too. Are you using Firefox? I use Firefox 3.6.10 and it works just fine. Smiling

I am not impressed with Dolly Parton! She does not like the cold and is stingy with blooms. I'm not going to rip her out, as when she does produce a bloom, it's amazing, but I'm definitely going to move her out of my "centerpiece" spot and put someone else there.

I like the Liebeszauber that I got from Palatine. This is its second season and it is 5'H X 3'W (I just went out and measured it). It has nice large canes and has been more disease-free than most of my roses. The scent is sweet but it's light. These were taken last May.

Val - oh wow, that's a beautiful rose! That's the right size for where I'd put Dolly Parton in.. maybe I'll see if I can find that rose as I've already put in an order w/Palatine for 2011. I just LOVE that rose!!! Awesome shots!

Toni, I know you've lost a couple roses this year from heat---how did the roses that you got from Palatine do?

I know our winter isn't as cold as yours (I'm 5b/6a), but Liebeszauber did very well last year with little dieback. And I didn't mulch her at all (oops). She shrugged off the winter and then grew like gangbusters. And our drought this year didn't bother her as much as some of the other roses. I wish she had a stronger scent but it's a great rose.

Everyone I got from Palatine did wonderfully. Stephen's Big Purple finally FINALLY has a single bud on it, I just had to look at my old invoice to see what the other rose is as it never did anything. But I'm not going to blame the roses.. they all came in gorgeously. I'm placing 100% of the blame on me and my ineptitude. I didn't water, so the only roses that did anything were the roses in the front that either I watered, or got inadvertently watered from the neighbors. I put 3 of the 4 I'd gotten this year in the back on the west side of my house, and only Brillant is blooming nicely. Stephen's has 1 bud, Laguna Freelander never blossomed or produced any buds. Blue Bayou, which was the only one from Palatine to go in the front, has blossomed 4 times this year and I absolutely love that rose.

Hello from the great State of Maine
I HIGHLY recommend Palatine not only for their roses which I never have been disappointed in but also the combined shipping charges for several roses.

Zuzu mentioned up to 9 roses last year so I am not sure if that applies this year.Palatine is always on my top list.Haven't ordered any this year yet but went to their site right away.Several I wanted are sold out but I d have a few in my shopping basket already.
Enjoy your Passion for Gardening!

WOW. Now those look wonderful! Can't wait to see the blooms!

I'm still waiting on Spice to unfurl. I think she's mad at me that she's still not in the ground. Soon my dear, soon!

OK. I've decided to give it a try. Looks like I just snuck in under the wire ... orders close in a day or two.

Because I live so close to the place, I had to order Las Vegas! Ilse Krohn is on the list because I ordered one from RVR last year and I'd like to compare. Except that I forget where I put that one. I've been lusting for Valencia ever since I saw it in an Arena roses catalogue years ago, so it's on the list. So's Handel and Folklore.
