The weather is still wet and cold. My outdoor garden and pond are a mess. I try not to look at them. With the long winters we have up here in Canada I grow an indoor garden to keep my spirits up.I am living in a granny apt. and only have two large window to grow them in.It gets crowded. Here is what it looks like today JOY

I've researched orchids and so far they seem like a good drenching about every 7 to 10 days and then allowed to dry out. The medium should stay moist until the next watering or only be partially dry is ok. but, orchids do not like their feet wet al all. having water in the bottom of the pot is a death sentence. They also like high humidity so misting well one to 2 times a day is appreciated by them. Good air circulation is a necessity. They either grow on or in the forest floor debris which means they can tolorate lower light or they grow in the trees where they get more light. their food comes from excrement which runs down the tree trunks passing the roots. usually they require very, very light feeding and most ofternonly during the growing season. repotting isn't required usually until their roots are starting to out grow the pot and should be done after the bloom falls off or the bloom spike is dying back. the catch is some orchids bloom along the spike several times so check the type and how it blooms. Some orchids have babies by sending a spike out from the base aREA AND IT LOOKS LIKE AN ARM WITH A MITTEN. tHIS IS WHAT i REMEMBER RIGHT NOW. OOps hit the cpas lock by accident.

Be careful with the amount of light, water, and as long as the temp is generally what you like the orchis should be ok. Oh yeah! Temperature! Some orchids need cool temps in order to sense a change of seasons before they will bloom.

Love your indoor garden Joy! Reminds me of my own little indoor garden as well when we used to live in Winnipeg. Big Grin I remember craving a lot for something green and warm to my eyes other than the pine trees covered by the white stuff for 6 months..hence the indoor garden, luckily I have similar big windows then that makes it a good area to place the plants.

You have very beautiful Phalaenopsis Lovey dubby Lovey dubby A true indoor charmer! I like them when they are in bloom..blooms last so long!

Your indoor garden looks like a beautiful indoor tropical paradise ... great growing!! The Phal Orchids are really pretty and I'd love to know the name of that big Lily with the yellow bud. Is it an Amaryllis or perhaps Clivia?
