I have picked over 150 lbs of pecans this year with the hope of selling some. I have heard that pecans have good yrs ever other year so I am hoping if I don't sell many to keep till next yr. I have seen them on Craigslist for $1.50 a lb and I won't sell them for less than $3.50-$4.00lb. I know this year is an over productive year but it is hard work to get out there and pick them up. I was wondering if anyone would know how long they keep in the shell in a cool dark place like under the bed? I know I read they pick up smells easy so I would have to becareful of that as far as not storing them in my cedar lined closet.

I read they keep in the freezer for 2-4 years but must be sealed from any odors in there also. I would rather not freeze them as I have more room in the house than freezer.

Thanks ahead of time for the answer.
Blessings,
Sandy

Maybe till next year. Pecans like other nuts tend to become rancid, when stored beyond their natural life cycle, which is fall to mid spring. Best to shell them, put the meat in freezer bags and store in the freezer.
