Cool, Evan. If you agree that Masud's photos are of that Opuntia, can you please move his photos from this entry?

Prickly Pear (Opuntia robusta 'Monstrosa')

Most of the Opuntias Masud is familiar with probably do have yellow flowers. But flower color can be yellow, orange, red, magenta, pink or white.
I garden for the pollinators.

A cactus expert on DG IDed the images as Opuntia monacantha and they have been moved into that entry.

Most welcome Sue. Just as an aside, why are the experts on DG better at ID'ing plants? Just asking an innocent question and not trying to imply anything.
Second question but more complicated. Why are there some(DG) who love to rub the fur of the cat the wrong way?

Masud.

Masud: I have a difficult time of comparing photo's for identifying plants but I suggested a possible ID of Opuntia monacantha earlier, either on this thread or the other one where the photo was posted. Glad to hear that someone familiar with cactus has identified it. It's such a beautiful specimen and your great photo's will certainly add a lot to the database!

I don't think I'd say the "experts" on DG are any better, maybe there is just someone over there who is more familiar with the Cacti family? As to your second question regarding why some on Dg love to rub the fur of the cat the wrong way ... Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing I never could figure that one out! I don't have a subscription over there anymore and don't miss any of the malcontent that went on over there.

I think there are great experts on both sites, depending on the type of plant.
Everyone here knows how to rub the fur of the cat, in the direction it grows, and actually prefer that method. It is a much more enjoyable experience for all, and the learning experience is greater. Big Grin

Smiling I am in the process of learning. One thing I have noted, I seem to spend more time here plus I will have to unwatch a thread soon there.
No I quite enjoy the way plants are ID'd on ATP, no complaints at all.

I complain because I see many photos in the wrong category. The original photo looks like Opuntia monacantha and there is a monstrose form that resembles robusta monstrosa called Opuntia monacantha monstrose. Opuntia robusta monstrosa is not likely to be found in the United States. At this point I only know of myself as the importer of robusta monstra to the states. Anyone growing it may have gotten them from me.

Bryce,

Anyone can move photos to their proper place and I think everyone here would be very happy and grateful to learn from you.

If you see a photo in our database, open it up and scroll to the bottom and you can click on "Move this image to another plant" and off you go. Thumbs up
