As a comment about Daylily (Hemerocallis 'North Wind Dancer'), BradKY wrote:

I really enjoy my North Wind Dancer, but it is too bad the scapes are so weak. Every year I have to tie strings around them to a pole to make them stand up. Others I know have the same problem. In this light, I'm surprised it won the Stout. It does, however, have everything else going for it: bud count, height, great blooms, etc.

I have experienced the same thing with North Wind Dancer. I am also surprised that it won the Stout. I asked whether I could do something to improve the scapes, but was told 'once a leaner, always a leaner'. This year, I even had a scape that just ended up in the grass. I would love to hear from those who brag about this daylily if they are just bragging about the bloom or if they do something to keep the scapes up besides staking it.
