Teresa, I have seeds of E. tennesseensis, if you'd like to try that one from seed. I'd be happy to send you some. If not, that's okay.

Perhaps in the Spring we might trade a couple of plants. I am so impatient with seeds. How long will it take for them to bloom? 2 yrs?

I have wanted to order Tomato Soup but had heard other reports that it isn't a strong plant.

Teresa,
Order another one, I have killed that one 2 times. Hot Papaya is a good one for me. Tomato soup is not that red, more orange red to me.

Hot Papaya only lasted 2 years for me, and even the second year wasn't very good.

Should bloom the second year from seed. Tough and dependable (unless it floods).

The purples and yellows have been the most reliable for me here.

Teresa, just don't order from Coneflowers.net. My order was all mislabeled and almost rotted by the time they got here. Most nurseries like Hallson will ship dry and inside peat to keep them dry. Besides Santa Rosa Gardens. I like, Garden Harvest Supply for good coneflowers at a good price, They have Pow Wow Berry right now for $5.00 and also Magnus and Ruby Star for $4.00. Get the cheap ones and see how they do. Also they have Tomato Soup for $10.50. Thumbs up

Thanks for the ordering info. Do they spread very quickly? I will ck into Garden Harvest Supply. I am familiar with Hallsons because my sister is a hosta collector. I don't think I have ordered directly from them tho, only been on the site.

Mine did not really spread at all. I only bought a couple from Hallsons, but I was impressed with the packing and they grew fast after I planted them. (no mail order shock)
They like real good drainage and I did not have them in a good bed for one thing. Also the new cultivars that are tissue culture. They should develope before you let them bloom. I did not do that. That is probably the secret right there is to not let them bloom before the roots develope good.

This rudbeckia has been a prolific reseeder for me. Kind of obnoxious. BUT I do love it and the babies are all different. They come up all over in my beds. It is so striking many neighbors stop and ask me about it. And I always send them home with babies! It blooms early AND all the way to the end of the fall. I have no idea what variety it is. It came with a tag that said "Autumn Colors"

Yes, very nice. I wish I had that problem with rudbeckias, so far no luck.
