I got tired of waiting for Pickering to shape up, and I was itching to order something, so I spent a little time on the Chamblee site and ordered six rose bushes, to be sent to me on September 20th.

I was all ready to give up on Buck roses and swore I'd never buy any more after they exhibited more black spot than anything else in my garden this year, but they do have other charms that make up for their lack of resistance to black spot, and Chamblee had five I don't have, so I have to give them a try.

Cinderella's Song
Cinnamon Spice
Incredible
Mary Susan
Mavourneen

I also ordered:

Elizabeth of Goshen

I ordered it because it's one of Ray Ponton's roses and I dearly love Meredith Bohls and San Gabriel, two of his other roses.

I think our Rose Society had Mavourneen listed as "most wanted' b/c it couldn't be found around here. Chamblees must have found some in the PNW (Heirloom Roses?) and started propagating it. Beautiful rose. Cinamon Spice is super popular here, I don't know why I don't grow it. Oh, I know, NO SPACE!

I saw the E. of Goshen you ordered and IMMEDIATELY called Chamblees for it. Only getting the pink Home Run and Lady Hillingdon from them this season. I have a large order from Burlington and as usual, not enough space. I may have to expand a bed and I had promised DH no more beds. I'm in a pickle.

Z, I have Cameron and Meridith Bohls and they are lovely and vigorous growers for me. Chireno, which I loved for being a single, did not make it. Neither did Margaret Jean. I think they got more neglect than they could survive...

Voss - Does your DH measure your beds? If not, expand by 5 feet and say, "Oh honey, you just don't pay attention." I'm horrendously lucky that way.. I could probably plant a palm tree and DH wouldn't notice until I needed help hauling the dead thing out (wouldn't survive here). As it is, I told him on Monday I was planting the Princeton Gold next to the Charles Joly, do you know where that is? "Yes" was his answer. "OK, what is it?" I responded. "Uh, a plant?" was his smart-alacky reply. Technicially, he's right. But, which plant? LOL! At least he was able to identify the Princeton Gold versus the other trees...

Hi, Nery. Great to hear from you. Chamblee has always had some kind of special arrangement with the Buck family, so they wouldn't have to go to another nursery for Mavourneen. Three of the Bucks I ordered are so new, in fact, that no other nursery has them and they aren't even listed in helpmefind.com yet.

I made a mistake. And being that I don't like talking out of my a@@, at least not willfully, I will correct myself. As you said, Zu, some of those Buck roses are new and not listed on HMF. I was intrigued as I couldn't figure out how there could be new Buck roses when the man is long gone. The explanation from Chamblees: there are indeed roses newly named by the Buck family. Dr Buck must have bred them long ago but remained unnamed somewhere in his greenhouse, until now. Cinnamon Spice and Mary Susan are two of them.

Obviously, (and that is my mistake), Cinnamon Spice could not be a fave in Houston area as it wasn't distributed until Fall 2010. I must have confused it w/ one of the Prairies (Princess, Sunrise, whatever) which are very popular in my area.

The Houston Rose Soc does have a list somewhere of 8 or so Bucks which they do not have at the Buck place or at univ of Iowa, and which they hope somebody will come forward one day and say they have it, so the family can revive/repropagate them.

I am really excited about E. of Goshen, thanks Zu for mentioning it. I'm gonna plant that next to pink Home Run for a play on single next to double and strong pink next to pastel pink. I love doing that kinda thing.

Skiekitty, last night I fixed a delicious meal for DH. The first of a series that I will use to sweet talk him into helping me expand a bed....devious rosarian I am....

Voss - LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That's almost what I do.. I just buy DH another video game and then he leaves me alone for 2-3 months while I putter in the yard. And since I can move almost everything in the yard by myself (I needed help moving the 25gal tree.. one of those big honkers from Home Depot that are like $100.. the smaller ones I can move by myself), he rarely comes outside, usually to look at something I want to show him.

Arlene - Not gonna go to Pickering's site. I've already ordered too many roses for the spring. No temptation: outta sight, outta mind. Thumbs up Whistling Blinking Big Grin

I'm confused, why are you dragging around trees? Why don't you plant them?

Alan - Gotta 1) drag them from inside the van to the driveway and 2) drag them from the driveway to the back yard as I haven't learned the Jedi levitation trick yet. Most of the time I just pick 'em up (especially these little 10gal ones, they're easy to move).

LOL!!! Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing I've moved many things in the yard, but not trees! That's why I put the trees on the driveway and look around the yard if I don't know already where they're going.

I've done that...but I always start with wee small trees. One or 5 gallon. Some of those trees, I started with 19 years ago, are 30 to 40 feet tall now!! They are finally providing some shade in this hot desert! Yeah!!!

Visualization is a beautiful thing!

That sounds great! I'm so happy for you.

I wonder what "Zoulin's" real name is.
