Not all bs. If your plaque about "government sucks" is about politicians, I'd say you spot on. Although, you don't have to be a prophet to see that. Hilarious! Did anyone catch that bit of NPR radio describing the derivation of the word?
Poly - from the Greek, meaning "many".
tics - bloodsucking entities infecting the people

Actually, I was specifically referring to our disfunctional government here in the USA. Angry

But in time, politicking tends to be the same the world over.

Pulling pine boughs and tossing leaves around for mulch. Nice sunny day for it here. Lucky Polly, wish I had snow--I wouldn't have to do this; but it's nice to be out when the weather is sunny and no wind.

How are you preparing the lilies? Whole, scaled, boiled, .......?

I've been doing some experimenting, and "popping" lilies, kinda like popcorn (but they don't expand explosively).
They always taste burnt, but they look nice....

Wow - is that popped in the microwave?

I break the bulbs apart into scales, wash them and toss them into the pan at the same stage as other 'soft' veg like green beans, zuchinni and peas, in the stir-frying process. So good!

I find the fresh scales break down if cooked too long, but at that stage they also provide starchy thickening of any sauces/pan juices. Which is also a good thing Drooling

Are you using asiatic bulbs, Della?

"Fresh" as in less than a week old?
Or "fresh" as in out of the garden?
Or "fresh" as opposed to dried or store bought?

'Fresh' as in just tipped out of the pot they were growing in. I wonder if a bit of garden soil would change the taste.

Only eaten asiatic bulbs thus far. The scales are white and rather thin.

And no worries. Consider the microwave our secret Angel

Assuming this is a serious query( Confused ).....
I can tell you that different kinds of soils do taste different, but I can't think of any that would impart a taste when used in such small quantities as a "spice". Smiling

I was being equal parts rhetorical, comical and serious.

A mineral-rich soil is vital for mineral rich foods... but apparently in some parts of the world it's not unusual to go 'direct to the source' for minerals.... But now I'm left wondering how much dirt you've eaten in the name of science! Hilarious!

Well, the answer to that will remain elusive Big Grin . But I can at least tell you in all confidence that for any dirt I have tasted, I know where it has been! Rolling on the floor laughing

In days gone by, gardeners knew this, too. It was normal for miners to periodically bring home rock dust to spread in their vegetable gardens.

You lily people are very weird.
The problem is that when you are young your life it is ruined by your parents. When you are older it is ruined by your children.

Oh dear... you mean it shows, Glen? Rolling my eyes.

As Della mentioned on another thread I'd rather grow lilies while I'm alive than live indefinitely without them

Think I'll have that emblazened on a shirt, a hat and the side of my shed. Green Grin!
