I wish I had a better camera to show the details of this unusual mount. What's hard to see and appreciate is the knife-edges along the entire upper rim and side openings. This is (probably) what's left of a small stump that was in bottom-land for decades. I have no clue as to the variety of tree. This mount has been sealed inside and out with a 2-part epoxy, not only enhancing the colors and textures but also preserving the wood for many decades. The final pics are of an unusual Staghorn Fern, Playcerium 'Mickey's Rainbow', sitting in the top of the stump. The mount measures approximately 9"x16". Click on pics for best view. Ken

The reason it's so hard to lose weight when you get up in age is because your body and your fat have become good friends.

Very interesting Ken. Does it have soil, or just moss that the fern is growing in?

No soil, just a large, handful of sphagnum moss. Staghorns are air-plants. Elkhorns are terrestrial.
