Masud has good advice Noel, I'd use compost and some good jungle dirt. If you need fertilizer, look for an agricultural store as they generally have a larger selection than a store selling to gardeners. Also, it can be a big problem for someone to import fertilizer. It's on most airlines no fly list and is excluded by most countries as well, something to do with making explosives.

lol I should have known the part about plant food & explosives being ex-military! Hmm I took his advice already. Infact , I will be posting new photos very soon as I just came back from my trip to Ecuador. On my way back to Tumaco, I collected about 40 plants. Some with leaves bigger than I am. I am going to need help identifying them! I am sure I got a monstera I have not encountered before. It looks like a monstera deliciosa, but is a bird nest type with a sandpaper feel to the petioles.

Also, the fertilizer I have is from an agriculture store here. I will go back with my wife to look for other concentrations.

Well, I do know about the fertilizer thing 1st hand Whistling I like the time release granules and they are very expensive here so perhaps someone I know really well may have emptied one of those neck support pillows and refilled it with similar little granules but ones that are good for plants. The tension was not worth it however, and it is not recommended. We were all younger and dumber and more adventurous at one time Angel

Fertilizers and quarry work go hand in hand. Ammonium nitrate and fuel oil are old secrets.
Try and copy nature. Get an active compost heap going.

Masud.

Hello Everyone:

I do not know if anyone frequents these threads anymore, but thought I would say hi while I am here. KAMasud, I found something for compost you may like. Look up Bochashi which is a Japanese fermentation technique. It is awesome for speeding up composting.
