Unfortunately, our HOA frowns on permanent gh structures. I'm just lucky I have understanding neighbors who don't report me for what I do have! For hanging baskets, so far, I have chains hanging down at intervals. Not a pretty sight.

I'm remembering why you have that gorgeous greenhouse, Kristi. We have a battery charger in the garage for 8 Ryobi batteries. I post a note on the laundry room door when I plug the charger in to remind myself to unplug it. Lesson learned for me (who used to leave charger plugged in all the time).

Yes... definitely an unpleasant lesson to learn. I've been told if they are plugged in to the circuit breaker power strip, it will throw the breaker should there be a problem. I still haven't built up that trust.

I have a friend that had a circular clothing store display rack which was handy for hanging quite a few baskets in a small footprint. We also took lengths of chain with "S" hooks on each end. That way, she could layer levels of hanging baskets on the same rack. Just another thought if you had access to something like that.

Kristi, I checked our power strip and it only connects to a GFI outlet. There's no circuit breaker power strip. DH followed me to the garage to see what I was babbling about. He concurred. No circuit breaker power strip. We have an electrician coming to install more recessed lighting (oak trees make house dark in winter). Going to get safer outlets for the garage too. I really appreciate your post. Don't think we'd have ever looked into the garage outlets again. We had an electrician install extra outlets about 10 years ago. 'Guess he installed exactly what we told him to! 'Our fault.

RE: circular store rack....you are going to land on DH's "Schmidt" list for sure now. I can see him driving me from Salvation Army store to Goodwill all over Austin looking for one of those (before Sunday nite freeze). Bad girl, but great idea!

...and chains and "s" hooks lol Just make sure it has a sturdy wide stance at the base so it won't be tippy while you are hanging the plants.

nevermind... fixing lunches and I finally figgered that one out. lol

I suspect you won't find that kind of rack at those places. They would use them to display their merchandise... unless you just NEEDED to go shopping.

They are projecting cold, cold weather here this weekend. Are you tucked in?

Nope, I've been the grasshopper instead of the ant. 'Still don' have Xmas up either. This weekend is supposed to be really windy, as well as cool. I'm going outside as soon as the fog clears! I have most of the pots put away. Have to figure out how to water the ones that get forgotten in the back of the big hoop house.

The only shopping I really need to do is for family gifts for Xmas.

Love all the pictures. I also said I wasn't going to bring in any plants, but I couldn't help it. Sticking tongue out I did try putting some smaller pots inside other pots and/or having other pots ready to place over some tenders at 30*F. I guess I will see if it works in a cold snap

It looks like we will have to bring the small plants in the garage Sunday, it is supposed to freeze that night.
We cover the gallons with tarps, I am not looking forward to it. Rolling my eyes.

It's supposed to be Monday night for us! First freeze of the season, first 20's if they are right! The poor plants...going right from warm to freezing, pretty much.

We are putting up the plastic over the hoop house today. 'Supposed to be really windy tomorrow ahead of the front that brings freezing weather Sunday night. I'm still finding pots that need to go in somewhere, including a large pot of black bamboo that our neighbors wouldn't appreciate escaping into their yard.

Josephine, I found that even the gallon pots would freeze without taking them in during a freeze here. Maybe up there your plants are more acclimated to the cold to start with?

I've given so many plants away this past summer, traded a few, and rooted lots for the garden club. I still can't make room for everything I want to keep. DH is being very patient, but keeping an eye on what's left of his garage space! If he "snaps," I'll show him Pod's greenhouse...again.

Sandy, we cover the gallons with tarps, also they are hardy plants to begin with, but some are too young to withstand too much exposure. We all do what we can and hope for the best. Smiling

Yes, in winter, our backyard garden looks like an old Southern cemetery with all the colorful flowered sheets I've save from years back to cover tender plants! I finally stopped covering things out front because the row cover I used was flying off and down the hill. We had to write our address on the big pieces so we could get them back after the wind blasts.

We have the hoop house up and secured to the ground. Tomorrow I'll scout the yard for hidden pots that I can stuff in before we close the ends. All that's left is finding spots for the heaters.

I'm watering....that always helps! Right now my weather source says 25’° Monday night...that would be quite some first freeze! Poor Root Beer Plant won't know what hit it, but it'll survive with something thrown over it. I'm going to have a lot of little ones to give away next year.

I think we're supposed to get 33° Monday night, according to Intellicast. We always are a little warmer than surrounding area. Still going to turn on the heaters!

LCRA weather guy says: A freeze is forecast across the entire region Monday night into Tuesday morning. There will be a hard freeze across much of the Hill Country. Low temperatures Tuesday morning will be near 20-25 degrees across the Hill Country, near 27-30 degrees across Central Texas and near 30-32 degrees across the coastal plains.
· Sunny but cool weather will continue Tuesday as Canadian high pressure remains over the region. High temperatures will be mostly in the low 50s. Another freeze is forecast for the Hill Country and Central Texas regions Tuesday night. Here, lows Wednesday morning will be near 25-30 degrees. Lows in middle 30s are forecast for the coastal plains region.

Right now, the forecast is for 21° here Monday night. That's colder than it got to during the whole winter last year! If that is how low it really gets this early, what can I expect for the rest of the winter? Grumbling

'Supposed to be 28 here tomorrow night. That's cold enough! We're actually ready for it this winter. Heaters are set up and most everything is tucked in. I'm more concerned about the wind we're going to have with the front coming.
