... and the wind is here. But the cold is late this year. Our first killing freeze is normally Thanksgiving and here it is the tenth of Dec.

Never being one to look a gift horse in the mouth, I'll say spring is right around the corner. lol

Glad you got tucked in in time for the nasty weather. Stay warm!

Woke up to wind beating the tree limbs down onto the deck. Started thinking about what I didn't finish yesterday. Forgot all the bulbs on the patio! Just didn't get them planted! I have 50 lycoris bulbs that I'm supposed to plant 8" deep. We don't have 8" of soil on top of most of our limestone yard! Someone gave me a bag of irises. They're not planted either. Soooo...I better get out of here and plant. (Did I mention the wildflower seeds that are still in the kitchen?).

I think I'd tuck all those goodies in the garage and stay by the fire today.

Homemade chili and fennel wheat bread is on our menu.

I ventured out without a jacket. It's really not bad, just windy. Chili sounds so good! I might try that for this evening. Rain skipped us...again. I found a few pots that still need to be shoved in somewhere. All the plumerias are finished dropping leaves (in DH's garage). I used the blower to get the leaves out yesterday. They were like tissue paper, only brittle, so they disintegrated when I tried to pick 'em up.
Enjoy your fire!

I made the chili! Took the leftover out to the refrigerator in the garage tonight. It was off. That meant the circuit breaker was tripped. Also meant the heaters in the hoop house were probably off too. And the deck lights. Yep. DH couldn't fix 'em this time, so we were out in the dark finding another outlet box at the back of the fence to plug the heaters in.
The irony? We talked to an electrician this morning about updating all the lights in the house before the painters come. He's supposed to come Saturday to do a walk thru. What a day. I'll probably sleep with one eye open tonight. Chili was good, tho!

It sounds like the chili served a dual purpose for you. Would you have realized the power was off otherwise? What a mess that would have been for your lovelies.

Chili hit our spot too. And the temps have dropped so fast here. They said 23 but revised it to 28 ~ right now 35. I have the wood heater and an electric heater in the greenhouse and am watching the remote thermometer. It is mid 50s on the cooler end and 60 on the other end. Off to add more firewood before turning in.

You're right, I'd have gone to bed thinking all was well. Crying
If my gh was as warm as yours, I'd sleep out there! Your plants are going to be so spoiled. Sleep well!

I can imagine you snuggling up with your plants. Smiling I hope you have the electric issues solved.
I brought in a few tenders. The border line plants like batface cuphea get one of those light weight pots over them. I think that is so funny that you put your address on the sheets! Do you use the special plantkets too?

Electric issues solved. Had to have a new GFI plug-in and a new circuit breaker. All is well now.

I bought a whole roll of the row cloth a few years ago. I had cut into large pieces for the beds out front, and then I "pinned" it down with anchors I fashioned out of clothes hangers. It worked fine on a still night, but not so well in the wind. Some would blow down the hill and I'd lose them. Once I started putting my address on the pieces, I'd get them back. Now we don't cover anything out front. I find that sheets seem to protect better in the backyard than the row cover when we have a hard freeze. It looks like an old Southern cemetery out there when I drape flowered sheets everywhere.
