This is more a general comment about all your great rock garden photos. A true gardener taking advantage of all available terrain. What kind of rock are you dealing with?

Thanks, Evan! The rock in those beds is tufa, which is calcite (calcium carbonate) deposited by flowing water as it crystallizes out of solution - very porous and relatively light for its volume (though not so light as the lightest pumice by any means). I wish the rock garden beds in my yard were natural rock outcroppings but unfortunately, I had to build them! Big Grin Making them look not too unnatural is always a challenge! Tufa is great for rock gardens and provides a great environment for many alpines (not those few that really require acidic conditions, though, of course).
