I just thought I'd let everyone know that the Kinnebrew's have suspended their operation. Here's the link to their site where it says a little about this. Fred knows more about this than I do so maybe he can let us know what's going on.

That is a shame, where are they? is it because of the drought? Sad

Sadly, I believe this announcement relates to the declining health of John Sr. who is no longer able to help with the garden at all anymore. John Jr. works full time and just doesn't have the time to keep up with a job and a full time daylily operation.
John Jr. had to cancel his planned speaking engagement at Lilyhemmer this past fall, and he gave his dad's declining health as the reason. I wish them the best and hope that John Jr. will be able to get back into daylilies at some future point. Look for a blurb about him in the upcoming Winter DJ, which will be released in a few days. ( on the Awards page, as his 'Spacecoast TIny Perfection' won this year's Lenington Award.)

Sad to hear, altho they have sure left us all alot of beauties to dab with or just enjoy. John and his Son were at our club about two years ago, last I have seen them.

Floota, where are you in Roanoke, thats were I lived before coming here. We lived off Windsor Hills road, kinda in the Raleigh court area. Pretty place. I had yet to discover daylilies when I was there tho. Never did learn to garden in that gooey earth, before moving back to sand.

Thanks for posting the information Julie, I did not realize you were on this site. I have known this for sometime but did not want to post anything until the Kinnebrews did. I have known John for many years and he really loves his daylilies from MIDNIGHT MAGIC 1979 which was probably his best known until the SPACECOAST series started with SPACECOAST STARBUST in 1998 which really was the one in my mind that put him on the daylily map. The AHS data base list 134 daylilies in the SPACECOAST series. Like everyone else this is sad news.

I'm so sad to hear this. My husband and I traveled down to the Kinnebrews in May and John Jr. met us and showed us around the gardens. I've been there so many times before. He was having some trouble--the plants were not growing the way he wanted them. Weeds were kept at bay, and he was very proud of what he and his parents have done. I asked my husband which daylily he wanted and he chose Sp. Chomp Chomp. All $200 of it! I gulped and agreed.

Jr. is so nice! I'm sorry this is happening.

Arlene, I had to look that one up. On our link it is a poly and on the AHS it is a single. Does it poly often?

It isn't the biggest plant around. It seriously needs some loving! It bloomed maybe 5-6 times and single only. It is planted in my very best bed so I'll keep everyone posted. Just planted it in Oct. Prior to that it was in the pot from the Kinnebrews.

Thanks for the video link Bobby. Its interesting to watch, and now 6 years later, see what they had done and know what was still to come all at the same time. Very bittersweet to watch. Like other sad news, luckily the sweet eventually shines thru.
