Around Astilbes and some ferns in the woodland garden bed. I have maple trees that I can plant but under but only if I make a raised container for them.

I just looked there.Guess its the going rate as I looked up Lazy SS and they are a bit cheaper but I think the plants are smaller.
I also checked Deer Resistant Plants, same story. No wonder I have been adding a few plants each year.

Same here. I told myself I wasn't going to order a lot of things this year since I have so many seeds and also plants to divide. However, I probably lied to myself. I will purchase some natives, hellebores, toad lilies, and violas (at least).

Where is your favorite place to order?

The biggest order was from Pine Knott but I will look at Plant Delights and Blooming Bulb.

I also have plants to divide and knowing that have held back on ordering more. I guess certain varieties can be wedged in,like helebores with astils and hostas. I have been planting Iris fro the past 3 or 4 years and left room for them to increase. Now I am planting early dwarfs to get the blooms and then to heck with what grows over them.

I may try Pine Knott too. They have several I'd like and do seem a little less expensive than some places.

springcolor said:I get the Beter Homes and Gardens Country Gargen Magazine and there is a nice article on helebores. Pine Knot Farms is featured, looks like a beautiful place with all the hellebore inder the tree canopy. They are going to be open to the public last Friday and Saturday of Feb. and 1st Friday and Saturday in March, located in Clarksville, VA. Any of you live close, wish I could go.

I wonder why they are called strains? I only have 2 colors and keep them in different areas. I am guessing they could cross or the seeds drop and are slightly different colors.

I have seedlings from Royal Heritage and they are slightly different. My original is a white/greenish one.

Here's my one and only hellebore, which blooms from March to May. It reseeds itself and I've gotten good ideas from this thread on where to transplant some of the babies. Do they move well? I remember reading that hellebores 'resent' division, and I found that to be true when I split up my main plant one year - it sulked for a good two seasons before regaining vigor. No clue what cultivar this might be.

I want to live in a world where the chicken can cross the road without its motives being questioned.

Seedlings do move well, but the large plants don't like to be divided. But they can be.

Jo Ann, I was going to order some Iris from Bloomingbulbs.com and when I looked them up they had some bad reviews. One lady said she found bugs on her bulbs and another found mold!. See DG watchdog.

I bought two nice 'Red Ladies' from Green Thumbs Galore for 8.00 each last fall.(they were pretty big) I got several from Santa Rosa Gardens. Cinnamon Snow, Pink Lady , Pink Frost.

Green Grin! spring, Clarksville is a little too far for me and I don't usually go to stuff like that. Looks very nice though. Thumbs up

Green Grin! Bonehead, beautiful flower!! I agree with Bob. (Red Lady)

Since there are many retail choices for helebores, I will check out something else.
I had ordered lilies from Blooming bulb and was satisfied with them.
