Beautiful shot, Linda. The rain was on either side of us the last few days. I'm glad you got some rain.

I bought a few of those scrunchy hoses and one already popped in two places. Buyer beware. I loved them when they were working. I have a hard time dragging a long hose down to the back of the yard. I can still use the 50 ft one up by the house, but there really isn't enough pressure to use them with a sprinkler.

Pssst....I hate to brag, but we're going to get RAIN tomorrow afternoon! Forecaster said this was the first time since May that he could accurately state 100% rain for tomorrow afternoon. It's probably going to rain out a few high school football games, but we really need it. Where we are, the rain just sinks into the aquifer. it doesn't stay around the garden too long.

We have an 80% chance tomorrow and 90% Saturday. I just hope it's enough to do more than just make the roads slick.

That's good news, Jay. We're experiencing a bug invasion out here. I thought I was the only one, until I started hearing the other neighbors complaining. Our daughter lives about 3 miles from us and she's had the bug guy out frequently lately. We've had to stop filling our fountains because of restrictions. I think the bugs are looking for water, just like the bigger critters. Hopefully, they'll get enough moisture to leave us alone for a bit.

We have a 90% chance tomorrow...pretty good! I dug a plant up today, and the soil looked bone-dry in spite of a little drip-drip lately, so sure could use it!

We got a brief but meaningful rain shower Wednesday afternoon, our first in a while. I have Ben trying to get a couple new beds made and it did wonders for being able to work that new dirt. I raided one of my pot ghettos and even got one bed started. Put my soaker hose in place ready to give them life support today but we got another spate of rain during the night.
Houston is awash again, but I will be happy if we manage a little more today. We live a couple miles off of an oxbow of the Brazos. That plus the river bottom, seems to create a wedge that splits most weather systems for a brief distance and forms a dry zone. We have for years watched huge lines of tstorms head across our area, only to divide and reform about a half to a mile past us. Coming from the south, they disapate before they get to us or suddenly shift north or south, missing us entirely.

Slacking off now, but more coming up from the south. Started last night. First time since early June there has been at least an inch of rain.

I'm just back inside from getting soaked. We have a huge limestone patio around some oak trees. The drought has heaved the oak roots up under the patio. It's making that wonderful rain pool in spots we don't want it to. I'm out digging trenches and popping rocks up. No whining. I'm thrilled to see the rain! I dragged all the plumerias out to get a drink too. It wasn't supposed to start raining until this afternoon. I hope this doesn't mean we're on the front edge and it's about to leave us.

That's too cute! I know you're glad to see the rain also!

I don't even have a raincoat anymore. I was looking for an old jacket to wear outside. Decided it really didn't matter. News is warning we will have thunderstorms overnight and more than a chance of flooding.
Our neighbors are in England for a month. They will be thrilled about the rain here. We're all worried about the trees. Just can't give them enough water.

Yeah, most of the folk on the other thread are in northern states...that get regular rain. Big Grin

I have a large Cedar Elm in front that has been here more than 70 years. The last few years' drought in this area has really stressed it, so I understand the concern.

OMG, I have standing water! It is not staying, thank goodness the rain has slacked to give it a chance to soak in. I'm with yours Bubbles, I have two pair of rubber boots that have cracked and haven't even been worn much.

We ran over to the opening of Trader Joe's out here. It was packed. Look like it'll be a fun place to take visitors. We nearly made it home before the next band of rain hit.

It has poured, with lots of lightning for about an hour and a half. One strike was close enough that it lit up the breakfast room windows! My phone alerted that there's flooding all around us. Sure will help the lakes to fill again.

1/10" so far but nothing more headed our way at the moment. We live on the Brazos too and it seems to repel the rain.

Storm update: The rain was supposed to continue through the night and tomorrow here in Austin. All the low water crossings are closed due to flooding. It was forecasted to be through here in time for the UT game tomorrow night.

However, this is Texas and this is Friday, and Friday means high school football. The skies are clearing. All the games that were to be canceled are back on. Just sprinkles through this evening.

Coincidence? I wonder?

My future koi pond was almost dry and I had been taking out the algae and junk at the bottom the last two days.
