Pia, I know isn't it funny how semp people are sortof crazy!! I was reading several bios from different hybridizers, like Ed Skroki and a british guy (can't think of his name at the moment) anyway, they weren't even hybridizers until coming across semps and loving them so much that they totally went overboard - and becoming famous as they kept introducing new semps!! Hilarious!
Bev - I was thinking the exact same thing! (49 wasn't that long ago but the wheel is turning quicker now!!)

I've shared a photo of this one before but I do love it, it has lots of leaves so looks very full yet also flat and wide open...and now I found a baby! I thought the thing in the photo which looks like a stick, was a root or something, almost uprooted parent plant and then realized its a stolon! How exciting...Lynn I think my plants all have a rich yellowish, golden color due to my somewhat damp soil - so its not all bad, since I love the colors! Hurray!

The most spectacular colors come from semps that have been somewhat stress. It's a balancing act for sure.
I don't fertilize at all, as it diminished the brilliant color of semps.

That one does have a very pleasant shape to it Greg.

I'm with Lynn - no fertilizer for my semps either.

Not only a lovely shape to it Greg, but just look at that fat little stolon. The hen is making sure nothing happens to the chick.

I agree Lynn and Chris - and I think that other one nearby may be connected, I didn't want to dig too much since they all seem happy, but the two little ones have the same shape and coloration! 6 weeks ago when I took photos of this plant the green was all one color and I really didn't see babies, and now this new color in the middle, its pretty!

I am already starting to see some changes in my semps, color wise. As soon as the warmer weather arrives they start opening up and putting on a real color show.

I know how you feel! I'm 22 and I have been getting some crazy weird looks from friends, family, and classmates when I talk about how excited I am that my new plants are coming in or my 'propagation tray" is beginning to show a lot of roots, or ask if they want to see a picture! Blinking It seems no one around me is nearly as amazed as I am at the life cycles and varieties of succulents... *Blush*

My introduction to succulents occured when I moved ino a new duplex and one of the neighbors asked if I cared see his succulent collection. This was in 1982 when nobody seemed to be into succulents and Serse wasn't yet born...I was hesitant at the neighbor's invitation, thinking that he was feeding me a line, but I was pleasantly surprised at this small but interesting collection. That was how I was introduced to succulents. The neighbor, Dennis, later asked if I wanted to go with him to a at-home succulent collector/retailer in Cupertino (yes, home to Apple headquarters) and that was the first succulent grower/seller I ever bought from. Now in the millenium, succulents are off the freeway in Home Depots Blinking and succulents are much more available. I remember having to look up in the specific phone books of cities I would be visiting to see if there were any nurseries that sold cactus. . Back then the operative word was "Cactus", not "succulents".
Remember, all cacti are succulents; not all succulents are cacti. (If I am wrong on this, please do not type so in this forum...) Hilarious!
