I think there are some pines with much shorter needles, but the pictures are from trees in my yard and the neighbour's ... excluding the Fir. We got a Balsm Fir Christmas Tree this year. Fir trees don't grow well in our area, so you don't see them much here
We have high alkaline soil with lots of clay and the Chinooks are tough on the plants. The humidity is very low as well. Maybe the combination of all 3 is why, but not sure
